This type of thing usually gets some heated discussions going, and quite frankly I was just curious to see who else enjoyed listening to the same kind of guitarists as I do. They are all monster players, but I just wanted to see who the majority vote would go to. I say younger players, even though some might be 40 or so, but you get the idea.

This was a very tough choice, they're all fantastic players. I gave it to Warren, but Joe, Derek and John weren't far behind. I haven't heard anything from Doyle, though, I'll have to check him out.

You definitely should. I obviously voted derek, because my life revolves around his music. I would have to say that I almost like everyone of them equally the same, as they have their own strengths. Derek rockin the slide (my weakness), John is the master of jamming (Crossroads anyone?), Warren just does his own thing and it always rocks, and then Doyle... I just love his style. Not to mention he has an incredible voice. You should most certaintly check out the Arc Angels and Smokestack. There are a lot of awesome tracks to be heard.

These are all jam bandish, bluesy type players. You should definitely check them out. Both Derek and Doyle are touring with Clapton right now, and Warren and Derek also play with the Allman Brothers, so they're not too underground.

Joe for me.
But I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Doyle either. I'll look into him.

Yeah, they're all awesome players, but I'll admit that up until not too long ago, I didn't know them at all either. Doyle is probably my favorite when it comes to blues. He never plays too incredibly fast, but just knows what he wants in his solo.

Which Mayer are you talking about here, the flaming pop singer or ripping blues guitarist? His stuff off of "Try" is awesome. Also the Blues Show recordings are pretty sweet too.

The poppy John Mayer is an awesome guitarist I discovered this through Chapelles Show =D then looked into his works. His later album have some good stuff in them. Also I'm guessing you think John Mayer *Pop chart topping S*%T* and The John Mayer Trio *Great bluesy stuff* involve a diferent John Mayer but believe it or not its the same guy.

*EDIT*
My Vote goes to Jo Bo, his one of the main reasons I rely started looking into different genres besides rock, metal and shred. I also discovered him through this site funnily enough. :p

Ha, same here. It's true though. I joke about his pop and blues sides, but yes, he combines the two whether you notice or not. My friend actually commented on it awhile ago... now this kid is like jazz/funk/rock/blues guitarist and he was telling me about how cool "your body is a wonderland" is. He said that there is some cool lick towards the end, and believe it or not I recall that there is.

Where are my fellow Derek Trucks lovers!!!

Wes, I originally voted JoBo.

But, I'd like to change my vote if I could. Due to your constant promotion of Derek Trucks music, I finally decided to give him a good look. Went onto youtube and searched him. I'm officially addicted. I've never heard an SG sound so good.

While JoBo is good, I'd give the edge to Derek Trucks. The reason being JoBo can be easily confused with SRV because their styles are so similar. I've yet to hear anyone that sounds like the Derek Trucks Band.

Oh man this is great. Another DT fan! woot woot! :D The first time I heard him play slide, my jaw fell to the floor. It was at the Clapton concert... I didn't even know his name, all I knew was that supposedly he was Duane Allman's son or something. When he would play a solo, my facial expressions were non existent and my friends would laugh at the possesed look on my face. Good times, good times.

Well, I was going to start another thread, but in light of the results we are getting so far, I thought that this would fit nicely in here, and maybe create a moment of glorious guitarist appreciation. Well, to avoid any more suspense. Here it is....... Greatest use of an octave pedal in a solo ever? (Watch Doyles solo at about 2:35 to understand.) Enjoy.

*Edit*
As I now watch it again (the 10th time) to check the link... I still cannot comprehend its greatness.
