True. I love songs like this due to the complex chord progressions. Some people try and solo for hours over a blues progression with the rhythm guitarist playin some 3 note riff, and it works alright, but somethings missing. With songs like Little Wing and Layla, all three of the guys can go on endlessly because the chords keep you into it. Also, little wing could be one of the few songs where I discourage the use of fast runs. Doyles solo for example... he just held out a long smooth vibrato for a few measures in between minute little phrases. Nothing more is needed.

The thing I really do love about him though is this... He sold out and then did whatever he wanted. I don't know anyone else who has done it that way. It'd be like Jimi Hendrix releasing a Gospel R&B album prior to Electric Ladyland. How much better does it get?

I actually like Mayer's poppy stuff as well, he's one hell of a songwriter as well as a good musician. Ain't nothing wrong with pop if it's done well IMHO - like any style of music.

- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Ya, I'll agree with that. I myself can be found listening to anything from Anthrax to Cheyenne Kimball ( :o ) so I'd say that pop is in there somewhere. I listened to Continuum which they say is more rock oriented (give me a break) Anyways, I enjoyed that so... yeah. What was I talking about again?
