not what you'd expect, but yeah the guy can play!

I'm quite a big Prince fan, and yeah, there's no doubt the guy can play. He can also play most of the other instruments that you hear on his songs!

He's also a damn good acoustic player.

I did the Acoustics and sound abatement for a recording studio here in Hollywood, called "Record Plant". The minute Studio SSL-3 was complete, Prince was the first to contract out the facility. Fifty or so of his people came prior to his arrival and decorated the studio with Purple silk everything and Purple furry rugs. I counted 27 instruments, from guitars, bass, percussion to keys.
He is dead sirius with every aspect in his creativity and was the only one in the room recording. I gained a lot of respect for his talent and professionalism.

Yes, he was in dispute with Warner Bros. over control issues.

As I recall it was the same ballpark of ''party like it's 1999" - a reference to the end of his contract. Still ridiculous... and quite possibly the reason we don't hear so much of him now.

I hear he writes a lot for other artists though... not sure...

Ya, it was after the release of "The Gold Experience", 1994, when Warner Bros. Trademarked the name "Prince". The company owns the name Prince and all music related to marketing under the name.
He has written hits for many artists like, Sinead O'Connor "Nothin Compares 2U. When his hit "kiss" reached #1 on the Billboard Charts, the hit "Manic Monday" was @ #2, which he wrote for The Bangles.
He's doing a concert series titled "21 nights in London", starting Aug. 1 @ the
02 Arena (?) (I wonder if that's the strange "UFO" looking Millenium Dome near Greenwich)? 15 concerts sold out in a few hours, so they added more nights named "The Final 6" ending late Sept.
