Coke or Pepsi? You'll find fanboys in both camps, the real answer is that neither is "better", it all comes down to personal taste.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Ibanez...

Of the two, in my opinion.... Fender. I think they're nicer instruments to play in general... but you just waiting until the Ninja gets here... ;)

I would say play both and pick which one you like the most. I love my Gibson Explorer but the frets up high are kind of small and I have big fingers, but Fenders mostly don't have a 22nd fret and the single coil pickups don't sound as good, IMO.

Keep in mind a new Fender costs $400 whilst a new Gibson will run you at least $1,000 (unless you buy one from Musicians Friend maybe)

Haha... now thats funny. :D

Anyways, I have played both and would have to say that I love both of them for their different qualities. If I had to choose though, I would have to go with Fender though. Nothing tops that thick SRV strat tone. My idol Derek Trucks uses Gibson, and I would love more than anything to own an Sg, but the fact of the matter is that they're too darn expensive. American strats go for about $900-$1,200, but you're looking to spend a good $1,300 or more for a nice quality Gibson. This is speaking in terms of guitars you would keep for a lifetime, and I obviously know you can snag a decent Les Paul or SG for under a grand, but that doesn't help us in the comparison now does it?

They're both very different beasts and each excel at different things, therefore any comparison will be a largely fruitless exorcise, of course thats just my opinion. :)

I like the feel of fender guitars more. I generally like the sound of gibson guitars more. I don't own either.

The only way to decide which you like more is to play a bunch of them. You don't need to buy them, just go to a music store and try them out as much as the shop owner allows.

Interesting lil' debate going on here. I am saving up to upgrade and I am torn between the two. So far it appears that Fender has the edge but I do love the tone of a Gibson. Hmm. Now I know that the Strat is the guitar of choice for the blues player so I would imagine that'll be the way I go but I am still not sure....

BB King plays Gibson guitars, and it doesn't get any more blues than that :p

True, true...of course, if I had B.B. money, I'd buy an ES-335 and a strat. :D

I think that sound have been more like 'BB King plays Gibson guitars, but he's massively over-rated. Buy the guitar you like'... :p

I've got examples of both, and generally choose to play neither. I have a PRS that I don't play because I'm scared of hurting it. Workhorses? A 1989 Ibanez Radius and a 2002 JS. My main stage guitar has been the radius for ages, and it's one of the guitars I've had the longest. And I think that's the link...

I reckon it's more about familiarity than brand. Legend has it that SRV used Squire strats because the build quality was better than fender.... BUT fender had him change the decals to save their blushes. No ides if it's true, but it nicely makes the point that the name on the headstock means very little... although I am still a bit of a snob after all these years. You won't catch me playing a 'stagg' or 'vintage' guitar - and that might be my loss....

Remember, you can always change out pickups. It's much harder to reshape a guitar to be more comfortable.
