For a marshall half stack (a head plus cabinet), you're looking at about $1000 for the head and probably that for the cabinet as well. That's the price range for Marshall... it's obviously not cheap. Now, if you're talking a 100 watt combo amp as opposed to the half stack, you can safe a lot. I don't know much about the going price for a marshall combo like that.. or even if combos go up to 100 watts.
Can I ask what this amp is going to be used for? Gigging or just practice?,... because if you're just using it to practice in your room you DEFINATLY don't need 100 watts

What kinda of music do you play? And what is your budget(if you have one)

It's probably best to check out a LOT of different amps before you buy one.

Take the time to read through this thread, and the related links: http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=2164 before you lay out a big bundle of cash for something you can't really use!

I think marshalls are cool but have you ever tryed hughes & kettner? Some are expensive but they have alot of good stuff that is inexpensive and i like the sound far more than marshall. you could get a 100 watt combo for about $500

Marshall makes good amps and theyre cool, but oh my
they are expensive.
I was thinking of buying a marshall before, but the
best offer I found was 30w 1*12" with pretty bad sound.
That costed 270$.
Then I found a Starfield (Ibanez) 120w 2*12" with
a mindblowing sound for only 200$.
I could not hear any difference between the Starfield
and an equally sized marshall.

Now Im sure Im gonna get:
"But the PRX is so much better"
"They have greater AWK-W in the trans-hypercyberXXX"

But I cant hear it so it doesnt matter.
Im happy and amp is loud.
Enough.

I've long held the opinion that you should audition guitars and amps with your eyes closed!

Your ears should get to make this decision.

I own a Marshall VS102R and I'm thouroughly happy with it.
I bought it a year ago and spent $500 for it. That's about all I wanted to spend anyway. Look at how much you can afford and how much you want to spend, and if you can, take your guitar with you to try them out. If you decide on a particular amp brand, go to zZounds.com to see if they carry it. They have the best prices that I've seen and there are no taxes or shipping costs on orders over $200.

Marshall makes great stuff, but so do Fender, Vox, H&K, Mesa/Boogie,etc,etc. You really need to make that choice by finding your budget and playing through as many amps as you can. I own a 50W Marshall JCM800 channel switcher w/reverb. It's one of my favorite amps. I also own an old Fender Twin that only sees the studio. I recently purchased a Line6 Flextone II that really does have alot of nice tone to it (although you need about 6 months to figure it out). Each amp has it's own application but their all great!!

Good luck with your quest!!
