8 string guitar

Sure, 7 strings have fairly recently become popular, especially with headbangers. But an 8 string acoustic? Before I heard this at the time last year, I had never heard of such.

I'll warn that it's from our Public Radio classical station, thus the interview isn't the liveliest, most energetic ever for sure. But when they play, the audio is clear...unlike Youtube. On this day, there's actually 2 guitarists each taking turns playing a song. The 1st is the 8 string, at 5:30-10:20. And should you be interested, the second guy's song (on standard 6 string) is pretty cool too, at 16:00-19:40.

Everytime I see an odd stringed guitar I get pissed. I don't know why, they just displease me. I guess I just don't see the point in getting something other than a 6/7/10/12 string.

Ever since I heard Rusty Cooley playing an 8 string electric I've wanted one. I'm not the biggest fan of his style in the world but it helps produce great variety and heaviness in low end riffing. I have a 7 string tuned to low B and it sounds great but it would be nice to be able to play a low A too...

I believe Ibanez are starting to sell stock 8 string guitars.
