They do a great job of making it fun. How "good" should I be at everything in the beginners section to move on?
Hello
I thought I would say hello. This is my first time to this site and WOW. The absolute beginners page is great. I didn't think I could learn so much so soon.

Well, take a peek at the next sections and see what's there. Give it a shot. If it's a little too tough, go back and work the beginners stuff through a time or two and then try again... I know I'm finding that learning the guitar is a cumulative thing. Each piece builds on the one before...etc.
By the way, welcome to GT. It's a fantastic site filled with great people who will always be glad to help. Enjoy! :)

Link hunter says, when you are comfortable with a lesson try one on the next level. If you ever feel you can't play it, practice a little more the previous lesson and come back to it later. In the beginning, all you muscles have to learn new ways of doing things. This takes time.
The amount of information on GT is sometimes overwhelming. To be sure you get the most out of the site, you need to ask yourself one question : what style do I want to learn? Every instructor has his or hers favorite style. I'd suggest looking around the different instructor pages. Then you can sort the lessons by difficult level.
Feel free to ask us questions anytime.
Glad to have you on the site.

Thanks guys. When will my fingers stop hurting? And is it better to give them a days rest or to just take the pain a practice everyday? I think I know the answer and will just grit through the pain. In the couple of days I have been doing this I can already hear a difference in my "playing"(used loosely).
I just saw SRV and DT in Texas. My bro in law gave me the DVD. WOW. He was amazing.

Welcome abourd dude. Your fingers will stop hurting once you build up some calluses, which can take anywhere from 2 days to a week depending on how much you practice, and how harsh you are with fretting (like doing bends, vibrato, slides, which you probably haven't learnt about just yet.) As far as gritting through the pain, the last thing you want to do is play with pain, it will make a problem worse. Though, since your just building calluses, this is probably one of the only times you can play through the pain. I did when I first started and my calluses came in no time.
