Tone knob fell off...?!

I was playing my electric unplugged last night, just farting around as usual - when, all of a sudden, the black knob on the bridge pickup's tone control just rattled and fell off! It's the weirdest thing that's ever happened - I hardly ever used it.

As far as I can tell, the control still works alright, but of course it's now just a little metal pin sticking out of the guitar, and it looks really dodgy... I tried putting the knob cover back on, but it wouldn't stay. I don't know how I could have broken it - like I said, I rarely used it and I never tampered with it at all. In fact, the only time I've ever maintainted/modified this guitar is when I changed my strings yesterday - but that can't have affected the bridge pickup tone knob, could it?

My question is: does anyone know how I might put the knob back on/get a replacement? Also, does anyone know why this might have happened? I just hope that my relatively new guitar isn't falling apart at the seams :(

Either the plastic craked on the knob or it just got worn out would be my geuss. Pop one of your other knobs off and see if its fits fine on the pot, if so just get another from stewmac or one of those supply places.

Or it may have a set screw as my Schecter C1 does. I have the same problem once with my C1. I was on the website, asked about getting a set screw, 2 days later they sent me a whole new knob in the mail. But you could probably just replace the screw IF it has a set screw. Check your local guitar shop.

dont worry too much tho, the electronics in your axe should still be 100% fine, that is just a knob for cosmetic and practical purposes.

Head down a guitar store and buy a new one, you may need to replace all of them if you want all your knobs to look the same...that's all there is too it.

If it has a small screw on the side of it,just slide it back on to the pot and fasten it with the screw

If you wanna try a free fix before buying a new knob, wrap a little electric tape around the actual pot's lever then muscle the knob back on. Worked for me every time.

I used to shoot my volume knob at Luke or Mike at random times during our songs by sticking my pick underneath and just kinda popping it. Eventually the little grip things wore out and it would fall off when I didn't want it to.

Right now it's being held on with a tiny little ball of Silly Putty. Problem solved.

If the knob is not worn and there is no set screw involved, the post may be split where the knob would cover it. Gently expand the post by using a small screwdriver in the split. Be careful, it doesn't take much to move it. That will keep the knob from falling off. If you can't get the knob back on, then get a cloth and a pair of duck bill pliers, wrap the post and again gently squeeze the post.

Cheers Tevis... the post isn't split, the screw was just loose. But until I find my screwdriver :o, I'm using the putty solution! :D

I would just go to a music store of somthing and ask them to put it back on for free. I do things like that all the time. :cool:

Cool - but it probably wouldn't work in Sydney, stinginess capital of the world.
