My favorite is always changing....Currently my favorite is Tim Sult from Clutch. His riffs just groove so much and the melodies rock.

Always in motion my current list of favorites is...

At the moment:
David Valdes - incredible shred that is extremely easy to listen to and melodic, not max speed all the way through - he only uses speed when necessary. Check out these vids http://davidvaldes.net/multimedia.htm

Marty Friedman - checked out 'Rust in Peace' again after a long while and went straight back to my cd collection for his instrumental stuff which is even better  Check out Jason Becker's 'Perpetual Burn' for some amazing guest solos, 'Dragon Kiss' for some really cool exotic stuff and the old Cacophony stuff for the best dual solos ever recorded (with Jason Becker - they could really have done without the vocalist though!).

Friedman is my favourite eighties guitarist, full stop - but yeah, I hate Cacophony :p

My list of faves, too, is always changing, but the list at the moment includes:

Dave Gilmour
Gary Moore
Syd Barrett
Brian May
Robert Fripp
Dave "The Edge" Evans
Warren Haynes
Dave Murray
Jeff Beck

- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Great List.................... Many of my fav's as well. I would have to include Ol' Jimmy Page in there somewhere and give my respect to such a great and consistant Songwriter.

Kickass! We can be the Gilmour-Barrett-Moore-May-Evans-Friedman-Haynes-Beck-Fripp-Murray fan club...

I've always liked Jimmy Page as well - definitely one of the more creative players in rock.

I don't know if I have a favorite per se. Seems like I keep finding players out there that simply amaze me with how they play. But, if I had to choose, I think my limited list (for the sake of brevity) would be:

SRV
Brian Setzer
Jimi Hendrix
B.B. King
Albert Collins
Walter Becker
Mark Knopfler
Buddy Guy
Freddie King
Jimmy Page
Blind Willie McTell
Billy Gibbons....etc

Toughy. As its been said, changes pretty often.

My favorite could at any time be:

Joe Satriani
Jeff Beck
Jimmy Page
Duane Allman
Dimebag Darrell
Marty Friedman
Slash
Jimi
I'm really starting to dig into Joe Bonamassa
SRV
John Petrucci
Gary Moore
Eric Johnson

I'm sure theres more I can't think of.

Jimi Hendrix, because back in the day, he was innovative and set the standard.

The Edge, because he's innovative and refuses to walk the well trodden path of other rock guitarists.

We may want to introduce Lindsey Buckingham into the club, just for added variaties sake....
