Question on Tabs

okay, so this is the intro to Sublime's Santeria, I thought I got tabs, but am I suppose to hold the E chord while playing the 7th & 9th fret, which doesn't seem..right to me.

If you could explain it to me, I think me asking this seems stupid. I'd rather feel stupid and know how to play the song. sorry this looks bad, I don't know how to put spaces between them.

E, Ab, Dbm, B

It looks to me the e-b-g-d-a-e shown vertically are the strings.
The numbers in between each vertical column of letters are measures.
The numbers are the frets for each note.
There are 8 notes to a measure which means they are all 8th notes.
The E, Dm, etc. are the chords if you were playing only chords for those 8 beats.

No, they're just telling you what chord those notes belong to. So in essance you could hold down the chord and then just pick the individual notes. I also put CODE tags around your tabs to make it easier to read. If you want to do it in the future it's the # icon above the reply box.
