Hey guys, my guitar has recently started playing up a bit. I sent her in for some work on the finish, and apparently they had to remove some of the hardware when pollishing after all the work was done.

I dont think this is where the problem started, although it may be, there was certainly no problem before I sent her in.

Anyway, it seems that my tone control is working weirdly, instead of being the most treble-y at 10, it is most treble-y at about 6 or 7, and then rolls off anywhere past that, to become bassy again...

anyone know what could cause that? shall I just throw another pot in there and start again? or maybe it's a capacitor problem?

Adam, what says you?

So what happens when you have it set to zero? Is it the same as what it would sound like if it was set to 3 before you got it refinished? My bass guitar is like that, the knob is screwed up so where you can literally twist it past 10 and start at 0 again without having to go counter clockwise.

First, pull the knob off, and make sure that the retaining nut is properly tightened. If the pot is not moving around, it may be time to toss it.

Yep, sounds like the resistance track of the pot is worn out.
If it's a Stratocaster it's a 250K pot
