OK, I am pretty new to playing guitar and pretty much at the beginning stage of learning. I gave up learning in junior high, and now for some odd reason I got the bug and really enjoy learning something new twenty years later. I bought a cheap acoustic to see if I wanted to stick with learning and I have decided that I do.
I am planning to buy an electric pretty soon and I wanted to run my ideas by you folks and see what you thought. I have been shopping around for about a month and have a pretty good idea of what I am looking for. For the amp I do have a couple of requirements. It must have a headphone jack (I live in an apartment and want to be able to play anytime I get the urge) and it must be able to grow with me and eventually be enough to play with other people.
I really enjoy jazz and blues, so that is the type of sound I am looking for. I can't afford the Gibson ES-137 that I would like to buy, so here is the gear I have set in my sights.

Epiphone Dot
Marshall MG100DFX

seems a good choice to me...the epi dots are really nice guitars, but any Ibanez hollowbody is also pretty damn good for the cash.

I would look at changing that Marshall Mg100dfx for a Line6 Spider 2 or 3...great amps! especially for the cost.

Yeah, what he said. ^^^

I instinctively loathe modelling amps, but even I understand that you can't crank a raging tube amp at 03:00 in an apartment.

So, yeah, go with the Line 6, and the Epi will still do you proud when you get a chance to plug into a monster tube amp. :D
