Rage Against the Machine?!?!?! WTF are they doing in the poll? Also, this is all opinion on what type of metal you like best. You can't say any of them are the best because they all play differently.

Maiden is the most solid band of all time. However, Rust In Peace overrides all metal to me.

Its hard to compare those bands (and RATM doesn't fit in :) ) because they all sound different (as hunter said.) When it comes to the best, it all boils down to personal taste.

I must say, I can't name one I like above all the rest, though Slipknot gets old after a while.

My opinion
Iron Maiden are the most consistent
Early Metallica
late 80's\early 90's Megadeth, never rely got in to slayer besides Season in the Abyss.
Children of Bodom aren't to bad but Norther are a lot better.
Lamb of God are well not to bad but get old very fast.
Slipknot are for Malcore S*&Theads
I like Fear Factory but they are more Malcore
Havoc Din Who the? (I will check them out)
RATM are not even metal.

Thats my 2 cents.

Damaged, Havoc Din are JFRICK's band. Check them out sometime, they rock pretty hard!

I voted for Megadeth, because they're my favourite metal band, but Maiden were in very close pursuit - they were my first love in metal, so to speak, and they're as creative and consistent as they come.

Yeah, I'm not heavily into Slayer. Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven are great, but I don't really like any of the other albums - they're too repetitive, IMO. And Kerry King is the most overrated guitarist in the genre - but Jeff Hanneman is very good.

I agree, I saw Kerry King do a clinic and was not Impressed at all. Also saw Andy Timmons (Danger Danger) he was way better Damn that dude can play.

I would take RATM off... they're hard rock.

Just personal opinion here... But I don't listen to much metal post 1990. I'm not into any of the new wave Swedish/Finnish metal bands. Alexi Laiho can play, but he still hasn't written a song that has had all the elements of a good song... to me anyway.

You left off the original "metal" band and the band to whom many looked up to... Black Sabbath. To do what they did and at the time period in which they did it... Sabbath was the most evil metal band ever, and for that I would say they were the best metal band... But that's just me. I voted for Metallica simply because in the early days Metallica owned.

But to each his own.

Got to agree with the excellence of Sabbath - still one of the most intense bands out there. There was a real sense of both good and evil in their music, which is part of what made them so interesting.

No Sabbath, No Vote,.

Also, I can't believe that Judas Priest didn't even make it on the poll titled "Best Metal Band".... Halford is one of the all time best vocalists in Metal's history!!!
Especially vintage Priest... "Whiskey Woman don't you know that you are driving me INSANE, YEAH"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Victim of Changes" off "Sad Wings of Destiny" and "Unleashed in the East" is something any young Metaller should experience to appreciate who the Daddy's of true Metal are, before the word "Metal" became "Commercialized".

I've seen Black Sabbath several times and can honestly say that they are by far, my favorite band from that genre. Of course, I'm not really a fan of too much metal so I can't really compare them to many of the others.

But man, they ROCK live. :)
