dude, i wrote this song called Pawn of Satan, and whenever I start a new band and show them the guitar part, they think it really rocks, but when they read the lyrics...

they quit... :(

and they quit before they even realize what the song is about. I mean, I can't blame them if it's against their religion or something....but they don't understand that the song is a story about this guy who is convinced by Satan that killing is the way to release your anger. Here are the lyrics:

PAWN OF SATAN

Is there peace or is there eternal war?
The battle that you fight with yourself
Would you sacrifice your own heart for life?
You were a blind man in those industrial days
But now the era of the demon has come
You should die before you take someone else’s life!

Pre-Chorus:
Come closer to me
Before the devil takes you
As his pawn his slave
And let the truth fade away

Chorus:
Our world is collapsing beneath you so save it!
You hide in the darkness to hide truth while youth remains.

Save your sorrow for when strike back
We’ll forgive you for the worst crimes
In the blood laced sky you see the black clouds gathering

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge:
Pawn of Satan you’ll take your aim tonight
Telling lies to massacre the light
Pawn of Satan with prejudice you breathe for the last time
So say goodbye to life and kill the woman you love!

Guitar Solo

Side with the devil before we catch you killing her
Reign in blood for the last time of your life
Suicide or face your fate before we realize that you’re dead!

Pre-Chorus

Chorus x2

Guitar Bridge

Guitar Solo

Outro
Satan is watching you!
Death defying eyes
Bred for eternal hate
You will scream for a final time!

Does anyone have anyway they can rearrange some stuff, cut some stuff out, put some new stuff in, even sort of change the basic idea of the lyrics, so it doesn't seem satanic to people? Or do you think I should forget the entire idea of putting Satan into my songs.
(P.S. This song is actually pretty long, around eight minutes)
The longest part is the guitar bridge and solo (4/4 time, just so you know)
Like a phoenix rising from the flames...

...so shall the epic journey unfold as we discover our ancient future and craft legends through fire and flight.

This is a night of trance...

Frankly....yeah. It's been done waaaay too much.

I don't think it needs rearranging. It seems pretty clear to me that it's made to sound like Satan has control over this person and it's an awful thing.

But if your dudes don't want to play it, that clinches it: Satan-metal is not for you. Try writing about something that isn't so parodic of itself. :)

Satan and Murder in one song I would sell it to Slayer
The Mind Is A Terrible Think To Waste.

If the guitar part is killer... and everyone hates the lyrics... change the lyrics. That's what I would do. You can still keep the song for yourself in the original form... But don't tie a good guitar part to something that people aren't into. Just rework different words over the guitar part until you find a band that wants to play it the way you want to....

Sometimes I write 3 or 4 different songs over 1 guitar part... Sometimes I write 3 or 4 guitar arrangements for 1 set of lyrics... Don't limit yourself.
