Acoustic style stuff that is strummed...

Blues songs always work pretty well with just guitar and drums... even though the drums are often slower and not as fun to play.

Other than that though... pretty much any music that doesn't have a super prevalent bass sound... think Green Day and other punkish type stuff.

Pretty much anything played with just barre chords...

Yeah, but what I'm saying is.... Just beacuse Green Day uses bass doesn't mean their songs can't be played without it... Their songs sound just fine with just guitar and just drums...

Stop trying to find bands that just have a guitar player and a drummer... because you're not going to find many. Look for songs by full bands that don't have over powering bass parts... That way you can take the bass parts out and the songs still sounds about the same...

Just because the original recording has bass in it doesn't mean you can't play it without it.

What type of music do you want to play because Jazz and blues offer this. Set your guitar tone from high to low

Just guitar and drums eh? Other than soft rock stuff suggested already, Slayer comes to mind for me. Sure their singer Tom Araya plays bass as well...but I seriously can hardly ever hear him and wouldn't miss him if he unplugged.

I believe I have an answer to the question: for those that remember, there was an alternative band in the 90's called Local H that did a Bound for the Floor that was pretty damn popular back in the day. Still gets played on the radio in fact. Here's their MySpace Page. The first song that plays should be the one that you recognize. Anyways, there's only 2 dudes in that band. Peace

Dude... seriously.... you're not getting the point. You don't have to have only two people in the band to be able to jam on one of their songs with just two people!!!!!!!!

About every rock song ever written can be played with just guitar and drums.

Ill go ahead and make a translation guide for everyone here:

Topic:
"wat are bands wif only guitar and drum?"

What are some bands with only a guitarist and drummer?

Post:
"err other than whitestripes

jamming i mean
and its good to hear too"

Other than The White Stripes
Something cool to play with 2 people
(everything else is beyond repair)

Reply 1:
"err no bands u knew?
i did tried to search sum end up nothing greenday uses bass "

(no idea what the first line is trying to say)
I tried to search for some, but ended up with nothing. Green Day uses bass.

Reply 2:
"yeh i think so too
thx alot ^_^"

Yah, I think so too. Thanks a lot. (removal of unnecessary smily face thing)

Reply 3:
"haha sure i keep that grammar thing in my mind
any good jazz song i rarely listen to them
new thing is good im only 16"

Haha...Sure, Ill keep that grammar thing in mind (oh the irony.....)
Are there any good jazz songs? I rarely listen to them
(1: what new thing? 2: You may be 16, but you sound 6)

Reply 4:
"Stanely Jordan are u serious i search them for ages no results dude
i found out a couple of 2 peoples band
the black keys
kinda okay"

Stanely Jordan, are you serious? I searched them for ages and got no results dude.
I found a couple of "2 people" bands:
The Black Keys
Kinda Okay

Reply 5:
"dat is cool new thing to try
lolll i cant find any jazz song!!!
i wanan try soloing jazz! sounds cool "

That sounds like a cool new thing to try.
lol, I cant find any jazz songs! (1 exclamation is more than enough. We can't acually hear you getting louder with more exclamations)
I want to try soloing jazz! It sounds cool.

Note that I didn't use perfect grammar, but I made my post legible.

Exactly - so try taking some songs you already know, whether they have bass parts or not, and figuring them out with just you and your drummer. If you want a specific recommendation, I think "Highway to Hell" sounds great with just a guitar and drums - perhaps because the bass and second guitar only come in during the chorus and the bridge. :D

By the way, look at the sidebar on the left-hand side of the GT page - Stanley Jordan is on the list of inspirations, fifth from the bottom ;).

Can't find any jazz artists? Grab an encyclopaedia of music and read the jazz section - or even better, a book on jazz (I particularly recommend "The Penguin Guide To Jazz Recordings" - it's my jazz bible). Then get yourself down to the CD shop and pick up some albums. If you want to play jazz with just guitar and drums, I recommend Joe Pass, but I think stuff like Tal Farlow and Wes Montgomery would sound fine with just drums for backing. If you listen to The Mahavishnu Orchestra's "The Noonward Race", there's a section where John McLaughlin (guitarist) is duelling with Billy Cobham (drummer).
"It's all folk music... I ain't never heard no horse sing!"
- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Look I know this post is more than 3 years old, however, I want to point out to you that in trying to correct someone's mistake you spelled "ridiculous", "rediculous'. Lesson? Don't say you're a grammar Nazi, if you can't spell.
