:(

Just finished giving a single mom the bad news about her son's Ibanez Acoustic/Electric guitar.

Seems that she tried to save some money by buying a battery charger and two 9 Volt rechargeable batteries.

Well today the built in electronics no longer work on all the amps I have tried it on. No battery light no nothing.

Called a buddy of mine who owns Texas Music here in Texas. He said that rechargeable 9 Volt Nimh batteries are like no other rechargeable in that when its power is almost all used up it can in certain brands discharge the remaining power, frying any really sensitive electronics.

It would not affect most CD players and such but it seems to have burned out the electronics in this guitar.

Since the guitar is less than a year old I have suggested that she get a hold of Ibanez, since Guitar Central says they will not warranty it since she used a rechargeable in it.

Just thought I would give you a heads up on this. If my memory serves me this is the second time I have seen this problem.

I have an Ibanez electric acoustic AE-10 that I will sell you!! ;) I never play it anymore, mainly stick with my Godin A6 these days for acoustic stuff. Nice to know about the possible dangers of using rechargeble batteries though.

The mom on a limited budget has called Ibanez and they will not warranty this guitar because in the instructions it says to use a 9 Volt alkaline battery.

I have also talked to them and they have told me the same thing.

can the electronics of this guitar be replaced?

One more reason I do not like Ibanez guitars.

Although once the store had refused to honour the warranty for the same reason, you'd think that saying you were using the right battery type would be a good idea... Maybe you could call back as 'Mr Smith' with a new problem and just tell them you have no idea how it happened?

Not sure Ibanez are to blame - but you would be able to replace the electronics. Whether it's cheaper to do that than replace the guitar depends on what's blown...

Theres always the option of calling Ibenez and lying, tell them it was a regular battery.

Not sure what I would see it for. I never play it anymore really. I think my wife paid around $400 for it, it was an anniversary present several years back.
