Argh I almost forgot about this site! How horrible... How are you guys?

I'm considering joining a band but the people in it are rather -- how can I put this? -- odd.

Have you guys ever done anything like that? I'm a bit confused on how to proceed.

Anyway, hopefully I'll remember to come on more, GT rocks!
Don't worry. I shred.

Yes. They're my best friends.

That's why we rock, we all think alike. You should've heard our little improv last night: Michael slappin' out some 16th-note bass ****, Luke playing exclusively on the bass drum and hi-hat, and me ad-libbing about "my lady-friend's trip to the dentist."

Viva los Greasy Knots.

Yeah, and before that, we made up a soft, beautiful ballad with elegant bass slides and Satriani-like leads over my own melting vocal melodies. You think I'm joking, but I'm not.

Good to have you back, lyricchic. :)
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

yeah... like odd in a good way or odd in a way that they give ya the heeby jeebies?
I could never play in a band that made me feel uncomfortable or gave ya that feeling like they were not quite clued in to way things are.
I gotta be able to relate to people I'm working with, who have a decent sense of humour and similar interests.

I was in a band. It was a ridiculous amount of fun. That's about all I know about bands.
I want the bomb
I want the P-funk!

My band is better than yours...

Do it. At least you get the experience.
For life is quite absurd and death's the final word, You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

yeah.. I guess you learn something even if it's just the experience of being humiliated or learning what not to do.

I joined ( or tried to join ) a couple of bands back when I first started playing and mayed a total fool of myself cause I had no clue what I was doing.
I remember trying out for a guy named 'Sandy' years ago who was supposed to be this awesome musician. I spent the afternoon being totallly humiliated by the guy cause he kept cutting me up and ignoring me like I didn't know what I was doing.

Years later I saw the guy in a bar band and he totally sucked. He couldn't even hold a note. It was then that I kinda reaized that guys like him were more about feeling like big shots cause they were in a band and the only reason people held him in high regard was because of his big personality.

Anyway... long story short.... he never made it anywhere and ended up doing a record that was so bad that everybody cut the guy up so bad he ended up quitting.

Don't know how to feel about it except that it was kinda vindication after all those years thinking that he was somebody to look up to.

The only bad thing about being in a band that you don't have much in common with is the artistic differences. Are they into playing the same stuff as you? If not, it's not really worth it. If you try to play with people that are into other things, your band is a stillborn... Dead before it's even born. Being able to relate artistically with the other band mates and be on the same wave length as far as the music goes is really the only thing that matters... It doesn't matter what they wear, how they talk, or what their social skills are like... If they're into the same music as you and you share the same ideas about it... Then you're golden...

However, you did use the word "odd" to describe them... which means you have obvious differences. The best thing to do is just jam with them and kind of give them an interview... See what they're into playing and see what direction they're heading.

'Odd' can be good, if your are similarly odd. Then you should all get along pretty well. Total normalcy leads to boring M.O.R. crapola.

Hmmm, I Guess "Odd" has a huge range in vocabulary. That's also Odd.
