For me it was a Lotus black fender strat copy the thing was incredible, i bought many "good" guitars over the course of the next few years , but that Lotus did everything .. all recording, all live stuff ...then in a temper tantrum of sorts i gave up playing guitar for years and let her slip away
My daughters bought me a Peavey Raptor Exp (to get me to play again)and it is a very playable piece the tone is pretty good , but could be improved.. but for the 150 bucks it is unreal how good the thing plays
Now i just bought an Epiphone Les Paul Standard but i dont know her well yet ... so ill get back to ya on that in time (the tone is ...hammer of the gods )

I bought a Aria Acoustic guitar for 180-200$ for "campfire nights". Something I could drag anywhere and not care. I must say it has a very nice action and sounds great ... even after a couple of nights spent on a camping table :)

All the way my Washburn N1, $130 USD.

Great confort, factory Piuckups sound pretty nice in clean or distorted and the pull up switch make it 2 singles or two humbuckers.

My only complaint bout it is the cheap tunners, I'll replace them for some grovers and never look back.
Power corrupts. Absolute power is kinda neat.

I started taking guitar lessons in the 5th grade and my parents bought me a cheap, small acoustic guitar for kids. A few years later I was lucky enough to get my second guitar which was a Fender Strat (I paid for this one myself with money I saved up from holidays/birthdays). Its the same guitar Im using now, and the only one Ive had.

Rogue acoustic. I bought it off ebay for $50; it was my first guitar and it played well enough. The action was set a bit too high for a beginner but i'm all the better for it now. :).

Gave it to my friend to keep over the summer and she comes back and says she "could not remember having it". I am so pissed

Agile Guitars- they're very cheap in price, but the quality is incredible. because they arn't extremely well known yet, and no huge online guitar stores (music123, zzsounds, etc..) sell them, the prices of these guitars are still WAY down. I highly reccomend them.

Squire Strat...

But I bought my Mexican Fender Strat at a pawn shop for 250 USD... a steal. Since then it's been set on fire 3 times and bashed against quite a few things... Best sounding Mexican Strat I've ever played too.

There are tons of nice sounding budget priced guitars out there though.

Yep - squire strat again for the win... I've had a sunburst one for years - very nice especially for the price... I'd recommend them to anyone for a first/budget electric...

My personal best cheapie guitar would be a samick blues saraceno signature - cost me just over $100 from ebay..., but it is plaid!

i tried a few squire strats when i was looking for a cheap guitar ... the peavey raptor exp was far and away better .. (in my humble and often wrong opinion),the tone is good, playability is excellent (after some setup), and it stays in tune .. i wish all my guitars stayed in tune as well. .. oh the electronics are weak.. noisy but for the price it is a great workhorse

oh, i did try 6-8 peaveys before i found "the one for me".. but that is something i think that we all should do, when buying a new guitar, try as many as possible ..

Both of my cheapo guitars were actually pretty bad, but I did grow rather attached to my Aslin Dane SC, even if it was egg-yellow. Some of the pickup positions actually sound very nice, although the enormous fret markers kinda get on my nerves.

Mine was a Made in USA Squire strat. My ex-stepson ended up with it. I wish I still had it. I also wish I still had my POS Global strat copy. It was my first. Blond on Blonde.

My Epiphone LP II. Pretty good start 'em up guitar. Still sounds good I can still use it for old times sake and make a decent tune.

I think the best "cheap" guitar is one that you learn and grow on... it doesn't have to be any specific brand or model... Just a guitar that inspires you to learn more and grow as a guitar player. I don't think it would have mattered if I had a Squire Strat or an Epi Special II... or a cheap Behringer... or whatever... as long as it would have kept me interested... it's a good guitar by me!! You can't expect much more than that from a budget guitar. Squires and Epi's are about the best quality that you're going to get from a sub 100 dollar electric though... It's just so much cheaper for them to make them than other people.
