I want to be able to record my guitar playing onto my computer.
I was planning on connecting my Guitar to my BOSS GT-8 guitar effects processor, and connecting the GT-8 to my computer (Windows) with this.

Then when it's on my computer I want to edit it and stuff.

Would that product allow me to do that?

Please Help.

lol, to tell you the truth, I found that StealthPlug at Samash.com...

http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=5&TempID=6&DepartmentID=6&STRID=14054&CategorySubID=876&CategoryID=876&BrandID=0&CategorySubPriceRangeID=0&pagesize=10&Method=3&PriceRangeID=0&SortMethod=&SearchPhrase=&Contains=&Search_Type=Department&GroupCode=&categorysubsearch=true

That's awesome... I'm going to end up buying it. Thanks.
EDIT: Can you maybe post in here telling me how the product is when you buy it? That would be great. Thanks

I thought the GT-8 connected direct to pc via USB... so you can use the Editor software etc. (?) So, you dont need anything other than a USB cable to be able to record a pure digital signal - you can also download hundreds of patches online. Download a free copy of Reaper and you can conect your GT-8 up and record unlimited tracks - you can also edit, master and add effects etc. If you are looking for GT-8 supprt check out www.bossgtcentral.com

I thought that GT-8 doesn't have USB support. I thought it only has a firewire connection am I not right?

My mates got one, and from what I observed it didnt have USB...

So u can just buy a firewire cable and maybe download Reaper like Superhuman said, and you're on your way !!!

By the way, GT-8.... It's great aint it. I've played live heaps of times with it here in Thailand... I reckon it's awesome.... so much control...

You should be able to go direct as SuperHuman says... You just need a firewire cable.

I do the same thing with my POD - except it's USB... goes straight in to the PC and sonar picks it up as a soundcard...

I think LightSnake will let you record to the PC. To use the editor on the PC check out this page. GT-8 Editor Says you will need to go midi cables to PC based midi device. I never used the Boss so I'm not sure an connections.

I think you need the midi connection to edit or upload patches to the GT-8, but reading the specs you can use the firewire interface to hook it up - record and edit with whatever sequencing software you want to use.

I'm a POD user, so no direct experience.... based on what I'm reading, you can record over firewire. A firewire cable will cost you a couple of dollars if you don't already have one, so it's not much of a risk really...

My mistake, the GT-8 is a firewire device, it's the GT-Pro that uses USB. Anyway, the firewire principle is the same, keep everything digital, no need to make a digital signal analogue then have to convert it back to digital again (that results in an overall reduction in the quality of the end recorded sound file). Anyway, good news is the firewire won't cost you much at all (probably under $10) and you will end up with the highest sound quality possible from the unit :)

Reaper is some recording software. Pretty decent from what I hear. I'd go with Zoso's suggestion because you get Tracktion(another recording software) and Amplitube which is a great amp modeling VST plugin. That's just me though. If you want firewire go to www.musiciansfriend .com and search firewire.

Reaper is the next big thing, created by the guy who did Winamp. The creators have a really good marketing policy which offers the software at only $30 (as a donation) - incredible value considering it has the best of Cubase and Protools mixed together in one very easy to use platform. The plan is for them to get a massive user base then start charging for upgrades, at that stage they hope to outdo Cubase and Protools for market penetration - at $30 Reaper is considerably better value than $700 for Cubase SX3. Judging by the current level of uptake and the rave reviews Reaper will certainly be a majr player witin the next 2 years if not sooner. Get it while it's free to download ($30 if you want to pay) at http://www.cockos.com/reaper/download.php
Unlike Protools, Reaper is VST friendly and is also very powerful when it comes to FX plugs - some really great free ones bundled. My advice, this should be your first prort of call, you simply won;t find anything anywhere within $500 of this program with even half of the features.

Maybe I was wrong. I went and saw my friend yesterday, I asked him if his GT-8 had firewire connection. He told me it didnt have firewire but 'Digital Out'.

Now I'm a bit confused, Is Digital out the same thing as firewire? Never heard of digital out before.

Before you by anything, just check out the manual beforehand just to make sure what connection you can get.

And you will surely get a great sound from that unit, superb quality

It must have SPDIF out, which would also work but requires a compatible card in the PC and a cable.

It's the reason I went for the PODxt Live rather than the GT8 - connectivity. Weird that all the BOSS user forums talk about the GT8 and firewire though.

I guess the USB/jack cable is the best idea?

One sequencer I might suggest is NTrack. You can read about it at www.ntrack.com I used that for a few versions before I switched to sonar. They have a demo you can check out as well. It has support for vst and is a great bargain.

My two cents
