Today I changed the strings on my strat, which is one of those things that frustrates me enough as it is. By the time I got 'em all off, I noticed something that frustrated me even more: a little groove worn into the neck at the 6th fret, apparently from the low E string:

I was just wondering, how bad is it that this has happened? Obviously I will try to be more careful with my playing from now on, but is it going to be a huge problem?

Nah, just cosmetic damage. Gives the old axe character.

Happened to my old guitar. From what i could tell, it didn't make a lick of difference. Just normal wear that happens from just playing something a certain way. I wouldn't get my panties tied in a (Greasy ;) ) knot over it.

Then again...i could be wrong.

Yeah...either that or from smashing the guitar neck with one of Luke's drumsticks at practice in order to get maximum caucophony.

Mission accomplished, by the way. You should have seen the people cover their ears at the end of our set when I just let my guitar feed back with all my effects going at once. And I didn't even bother with the drumstick thing.

My frets were worse than that and I took it to a guitar technician.
He rubbed the frets down with something quite course - it was years ago and I can't quite remember what he used - it played fine afterwards
