semi hollow
Alright this question is posed mostly to the jazz/blues connoisseurs. Ok well I'm in my school jazz band and I'm now in the market for a new axe. My soul intension for this axe is most likely going to be just for jazz and occasionally blues, but considering I've got my strat im set in the blues department. I'm not a particular fan of hollowbodys, nothing to do with sound, just a feel thing, they are so uncomfortable for me to play. So I guess what I'm looking for is a nice semi-hollow. Thanks guys!

check out the line 6 variax, it has some great hollow-body and Jazz box sounds and plays like an electric.
I reviewed it recently

/come back with a price range and i'll dump on ya a ton of good jazz guitar options.
//i'm still not sold on the variax guitars.

played any epiphone sheritons? they tend to be about as heavy as a les paul but get a good jazz tone and aren't bulky like the hollows.
if it's too big the other way(i assumed you had a problem with thickness), let me know and i'll look up some other stuff. for live purposes, i don't like the variax unless you have a pod to go along with it...and even then...it works much better in the studio than for live purposes.
what's amp do you have right now?

as far as if you wanna move up later...prs's hollowbody guitars are amazing, my friend has one and it gets a really phat jazz tone. or if you wanna go for a more traditional looking guitar, check out the gibson CS-336. the carvin H2 allen holdsworth model also holds up well and is semi-hollow (despite having no f-holes)
or if you can score one, check out what heritage guitars have to offer.
how do hollowbodies bother you, anyways? out of curiousity. i mean if you're sitting down, it should feel like playing an acoustic (or do you not like acoustics in general?). if you're a player that likes to stand up, i could understand.

I guess its a matter of not liking acoustics at all lol...i mean I just feel "at home" with an electric...I just don't like the position I'm in playing an acoustic especially for long practice session ...just my personal preference

that's cool, was just wondering.
my friend's prs hollow II basically has a normal prs size body but is fully hollow and it sounds awesome. definately not a traditional jazz box look but it delivers.
