I use cakewalk Guitar Tracks version 2 software - £50
I use a digitech Artist guitar modeling processor with a simple volume control - £120 -into the Mic input of the PC - this gives me a hum free guitar sound.
I'm still struggling to record vocals - I need a vocal pre amp mixer which i hope to aquire soon.

The volume control is a 470Kohm pot, wired into the output lead to prevent the output of the processor from overloading the PC Mic input

New myself to the PC thing. Just posted my first recordings today as a matter of fact. A good freeware to get you started would be Audacity. It is open sourced but is fairly easy to learn and could hel;p get you started until you find a software you want to purchase.

Good luck!

I found Nuendo great for recording. It's not as difficult to use as it seems, and if you have good gear, it gives nearly professional quality recording.

You're on your own for vocals, as I am still working that out too, but..... what i have been doing is, I have a 1/8" cable that is adapted to 1/4" (instrument cable) at the other end. I setup as usual, but use that cable and with the line out on my amp, I can plug into the computer. It works great for keeping the tracks pretty clean. You could plug straight into the computer even, as long as your software's effects are alright. Thats just how I do it, or atleast how I record right now.

Im almost certain it records anything that comes out of your soundcard..if you can hear it ..it records it...

you will have to download another file though to convert your recording to mp3...audacity will tell you the name of the file you need when you try to export to mp3...

Yeah there should be an option somewhere to choose which input and output you want to use.
