Haha, thats good stuff. Stupid Mpa.

I'm glad ultimate-guitar is taking a stand, if they are at the brink of shutting down, I'm gonna get some people to save the tabs and open my own site. After one gets shutdown, I'll open another and so on.

OK now i have to ask this...is it now illegal to play a song by a musician w/o paying him royalites. After all there is still a :loss of revenue". Heck my family wouldnt mind if Coldplay came to play in my home instead of me. We could always pay $5 each, that'll come to a grand total of $25. Maybe then they'll stop complaining about loss of revenue.

I mean WTbloodyF!!!

This MPA thing is really p**sing me off. How can they do this? I send the a *cough*kind*cough**ahem* email about it. I basically said that this has tought me how to play and if they want a future in good music, then they should see sense. But somehow, I don't think 1 person is going to stop them. I am glad to see sites like guitartabs.cc merging their forums with MuSata. I think every guitarist should make a stand. If every guitar payed like $5 to get access to tabs, I'm sure that would be enough
Im not ok. Im not okhayhay. Im not ok.

I'll tell you what, tabs are handy when teaching. And, as far as I know, it's legal to use tabs when teaching. I could be wrong though. But when I taught guitar (I wanna start up again some time soon) I could have up to 40 songs every week to work out for students who wanted to learn their favourite songs. Sometimes I'd do it by ear, but tabs made things much easier when I was stuck for time. It would suck big time if that resource was no longer there.

The tighter the MPA squeezes its fist, the faster more tab sites will slip through their fingers.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

i do not understand the legality of this.....if i have a website that tells about the storyline of a movie "in my own opinion" is that illegal?? is it the posting of lyrics?? as long as you give credit to the writer ...it should be legal...it reminds me of recording songs off the radio  only less harmful..

To the best of my knowledge, the MPA hasn't gone to court to prove the legality of their stance yet. (They haven't had to, all threatened sites have so far capitulated)

in a while we'll be having torrents for guitartabs  do they really think they're creating something better out of this? it's just sad, most tabs are even handwritten/tabbed, not even from a tabbook, how can you ban a person's ideas!

Bottom line.... they need to stop worrying about tabs and focus on people d/l the music for free. What do people d/l more, tabs or music?!?!?! I mean come on.

I remember music moguls paying some software engineers to come up with trojan horse computer viruses that they put out on the web through P2Ps. It was in the news. They were saying that it was supposed to get at the people downloading music for free.

They have money and so it was legal for them.

I Think I am going to copy-write the Alphabet , then everyone will have to pay me royalties to type any written words :p

Greed is what it all boils down to ! What would really make the music industry sit up in their chairs , is everyone across the world not to purchase ANY music ( that means no iTUnes , CD's ,DVD's ect.... ) for a month or 2 , then see how much money they loose , they might get the hint , but no one will band together to show a force . That alone would hit them in the pocket book , and let them know where the public stands !

I have no problem paying for a TAB ( if offered ) from iTUnes or such as long as I know it was written by the Artist himself /herself and is accurate , and the money goes to the artist . instead of some lame company , and the artist gets maybe 2 cents of every dollar .

Its " do as I say not as I do " syndrome :( Its alright for the record labels to steal from their artists but not the public !

It's actually pretty easy.

I can imagine zipped archives of tabs becoming popular in the future.

Thel sales person was telling me that when I got my first Ipod, and that is was covered by warranty. The MPA blamed it on hackers, but hackers love music and wouldn't do anything like that, that made it a dead giveaway.

I'm really getting sick of this MPA bull****. funny how they need to ban tabs so the multi-millionaire artists can make more money... but they put webmasters of guitar tab sites out of a source of income, and possibly their ONLY source of income in some cases! it's obvious these webmasters aren't exactly rich, otherwise they'd take a risk in court. so it's a "starve the poor to feed the rich" kinda situation.

UG is not going anywhere. They are Russian. US laws don't apply to them.

The guy who made the site is in Russia but apparently the servers are in the US as well as an office.

He should get everything changed over to Russia and he won't have any worries.
