I've played all the above and owned Martin and Taylor guitars. I much prefer Martin to the others, though some of that might just be what I like to hear rather than a definite judgement on quality.

The Matons I played were kinda lifeless, apart from the Tommy Emmnuel signature guitar--but that one was pretty expensive. The woods just didn't seem to resonate well, IMO.

Taylors are nice guitars, but lack bottom end to my tastes. I don't find them balanced at all.

Takamines? Well, they're ok. Heh. That's about all I can say for them.

Martins have a rich woody tone that really fills a room--as opposed to a Taylor's crystaline shimmer.

As for the woods, check this out: Click Me!

Subtract 1 from Takamine. I thought you only had $214 to spend. :o

I dunno, I like taylor, but If I were you, I'd rather save a bit more until I could afford a nicer model...

I'm not going to vote on this poll, because I am not well informed on these guitars, and any vote a placed, would be unfounded.

I voted for Taylor, but that's just my personal opinion. I get a stiffy everytime I play one :D. They're all nice guitars, and all play, feel, and sound different. It all depends on what feels and sounds right to you.

No category, I like Tacoma's.

Lots of bang for the buck.

I have a Tacoma road king that sounds awesome.
