Hey fellas,
Haven't recorded in a while but managed to get into the studio on Thursday evening and this afternoon. This is where I got so far - had these riffs flying around my head over the past few weeks but had no chance to play (wife justs had a baby). Anyway, a fair few of the parts were written in the studio which was cool because is was great to get feedback from the engineer as the track came together.
Hope to get back to mix this in three weeks - the levels are all over the place (some too loud other way to low) and a few more bits have to be added (including strings) and redone. No Mesa gear this time just a Marshall 100 watt and a Boss GT-Pro.
Would love some feedback on what you think!
Track: Unleashed

Ibanez Jem 7BRMR
EBMM Petrucci 7 string
Ibanez Prestige custom (Zak Wyde EMG pups)
Fender Squire bass
Marshall 100DFX amp
Boss GT-Pro
Proud of this one

Thanks mate, allways good when another shredder likes your stuff. I used the Petrucci 7 string on this track for the rhythms, worked out well - you still on the same axe? I just can't gget the hang of lead on it, have to use the Jem for all the fiddly bits- the extra heavy string gauge don't help either

I hear you about the drums allright, just used that as a basic track to keep the timing throughout for recording. A friend of mine is going to play live drums on all of my tracks as soon as the guitar parts are all done, then it will be a matter of mixing and mastering for a proper cd.
Just wondering what you thought of the lead tone? The harmonies have a specific tone necessary for pre-entry into an Eventide Eclipse - once they go through that they will sound completly different (going for effects driven harmonies and a dry heavy tone for rhythms). I used a lot of overdrive ontop of distortion to get that 'burning liquid' sound for the lead - just a matter of EQ'ing it so that it shines through the mix (its far too loud at the moment!). If you have any ideas or opinions on how to approach the mix or tones that would be cool. Thanks again for comments;-)

Yea im still useing the JPEBMM 6 string but I as yet have no probs with lead on it, infact I think its fantastic for lead work IMO! but yea realy like this new track and the drums can be fixed but the rest of the song is great you have great chops and a great choice of notes in the song!

Sounds great! Awesome playing! Very nice tone as well. Can't wait to hear the final product!

I love how your chugging led to the very melodic solo around 1:30. Very fresh.

Believe it or not the solo at 1.30 was written in the studio and is one of my favorites so far, even though it's not the fastest or most 'shreddy' :p

Wow...I wish I could play like that, but I haven't found the discipline to practice enough. Very sweet!
And big congrats on the kid!

Badass, very heavy and harmonic minor esque. This is definately a step into the right direction for Virtuosic Instru-metal shred music. My only advice is to be careful on that whammy shake thing you do at the end of a few phrases/solos. I think you only had it in 2 times and that is ok, but if you record it again make sure you don't do it a third or it might get kind of cheesy :D
But seriously, good job and I look forward to hearing more in the future. Peace.

I hear ya on the cheese, I made up most of those solos in the studio and the night before so I wasnt really sure what I was going to play... it was only when I did the mix down that I realised there were two very similar vibrating trem dive endings in two consecutive solos... can't help cringing everytime I hear the second one
Thanks for the words though, much appreciated. I checked your myspace page, could only get the Blues improv to work. Some nice shredding in there. Look forward to you posting something here.
Hey guitarfreak141, Happy to be called "shredderiffic"! :D Thanks for listening

The exotic scales are really interesting. I gotta stop listening to yoru stuff for now, feels like I ,ve just finished a marathon :D
This piece just doesn't let up, like "Loneliness of a Long Distance Runner" kind of feel.
Your sweep technique is just jaw dropping!
AWESOME stuff!
