I read this just a few seconds ago in a post by FenderBlues in that thread about naming guitars. How true it is. From day one of my guitar experience I sucked worse than anybody i knew. I suck today, to my mind I won't stop sucking. Is this the same in everybody here? Do we all feel like we are the last people to admit how good we are?

I probably haven't been playing as long as most but also is there ever a time when all you older folks suddenly woke up and said "I'm the best guitar player I know!" Or do some just grow out of it like its a beginnger's thing.

Older folks huh! (grin)
when i started out on guitar in 1961 i just wanted to,
play as good as my peers.
Yes you do go thro a stage where you think your never,
going to get any better. This might not hold true with,
everybody but i went thro this stage.
I alwasy tried to get around guitarest that i thought,
were better than me,because after hearing them it just made,
me want to really bare down and practice more plus really,
play the guitar more plus drive them nuts with questions,
like asking them how do you do that lick ect ect.
About the thinking i was the best guitar player around,
my area i went thro that too.
Heres a little story about me when i had it in my head,
that i was the best guitarest around my area thats after,
i got better after three years and thought man i was it.
Anyway i had a friend come over one nite and he said,
you got to go hear this girl from this road group she's
really tough on guitar .
I thouht to myself a girl lead guitarest huh bla .
Anyway i went with my friend to the club where she was,
playing and thought ok i got to hear this tough girl,
lead guitarest.
Anyway the first song she did was Johnny b-good wow,
did she do it' there were licks coming out of johnny b ,
that made chuck berry sound like a beginner and me also.
On top of it she was singing it better than chuck berry,
plus picking all these hot licks.
Then she took the guitar and put it up behind her head,
and turned around with her back to us so we could see,
all those hot licks wow.
After that i took off to chicago ill and really got with,
some tough guitarests then i came back to my local,
area .But i leart a lesson from that girl i'm never going to think i'm the best guitarest again.
To this day i don't think i'm the best guitarest.
I think there's alwasy somebody better around the corner, just waiting for me to say i'm the best and i keep that,
thought in my head alwasy. But i will never stop learning, thats the key to being a good guitarest,
plus staying a good guitarest.
I've played over 20 years and i do'nt think to this day,
there is a guitar player in the world who is the best.

Mark

I think that the trick may be something I was told by my tutor (of which after posting a question if it is benificial to go to a tutor even though I had been self taught for years etc. As advised by a wise man SKEE1, Thanks)don't look at what your trying to learn but insted what you already learnt,

Being if you have learnt 1 thing you can learn 2 things, does this make sense to you, it did and does to me.
While I'm sat here, Playin', I'm tryin' to free my mind!
