Canada Day is July 1st. The Americans celebrate their Independence Day on July 4th. Stampede starts on July 7th, and goes through to the 16th.

Yeah, I think we're in for a 2-week party. :D

yea that sounds better...dunno why I said Junet 4th...come to think of it, I left Sa on 22 June 1998, so if it was June 4th I would have missed it by quite a way...July 1st it is.

I'm in Canada right now eh, I don't live here, but I'm visiting eh, its pretty cool, I was in Ottawa for Canada day and right now I'm in Quebec City

One thing I still can't figure out, do Canadian people really say eh a lot? or is it just a hyped up stereotype, eh? its a cool word though, eh
If there's one thing I've learned, it's that life is one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders was dead.

Rock stars ... is there anything they don't know?

Its a stereotype. The word does get used, but not nearly as much as legend has it. The fact that you've been to a couple of places in Canada but you still have to ask this question pretty much says it all.

And I've never heard anyone say "aboot", except for some particularly rude tourists from the southern US who were teasing a scruffy-looking fella in the Byward Market in Ottawa. He decked two of them, and the third one ran away. :D Call it a collision of stereotypes.

I've never heard it pronounced aboot, but I do know someone who pronounces it aboat.

But then, I'm from the deep South. So, any accent/dialect that's more than 50 miles away sounds funny to me.

I suspect its some kind of Scottish thing. "Oot & aboot". But even Nova Scotians don't talk like that. As Tonja can tell you. You may hear things like Highway 7 being called "Highway Sheven". Sean Connery kinda thing. ;)

I was refering to Tonja with the "aboat". Which is pronounced like " I'm going to take my boat out on the lake today", but with an a infront of it.

I think the way that I pronounce about, and house, mouse, etc.. is with a maritime accent.. it does sound closer to "oh" rather than "ow", but there is definately a difference in the sound of boat, and about.. maybe not much.. but a subtle difference..

and I don't say "eh"...

Yeah, I figured that out. My father is from St. John, New Brunswick, My ex is from Hartlen, N.B., and one of my old drinkin' buddies was from Sheet Harbour, N.S. And you can't turn around here without bumping into a Newfie. Its interesting to sit in a bar and just surf the accents floating around. I drank for free the week I was in England because at that time (1988), a Canadian accent was cool, and the locals had no concept of being able to drive for 1000 miles in any direction.

That subtle difference is only in your head... it sounds exactly like boat.

But hey, with me being a "Southerner", everything I say sounds funny to you.

as said by Tonja in an msn messenger conversation about this:
I can't beleive I am being teased by a "Southerner" for MY accent... geesh.

Ha, yes. I find southern accents funny. NO OFFENSE AT ALL TO YOU GUYS.
I was in church and there was a southerner guest speaking. As soon as he started i burst out laughing and got some evil looks. I really tried to contain myself, but i list control a few times. Like when he went...'catch us at Doubleya Doubleya Doubleya dot..." O good times. :D

Yeah, and since then we've made a point of not fighting any wars so we keep our perfect record.

By the way, you cannot possibly have a cooler accent than Danny Baldwin on Coronation Street.
