Has anyone ever played or own a Fender DG7? I've been playing a few months and really want to get an acoustic. A local music store has a few on order and the cost is gonna run under $220. But, I don't wanna buy this and in 6 months wish I'd have gotten a DG9 or higher model. Any comments on this guitar?

Thanks,

Jcarl

My opinion on Fender...... Save your $$$ and buy something better. I don't have any experience with the DG7 or DG9. But I think Fender simply relys on thier brand name too much anymore. They can put out any piece of crap slap the fender name on it and people will buy it. I personally avoid new Fenders like the plague. Only the vintage ones (pre-1970) are any good.

buzz is telling you right, fender doesn't make very good acoustics to me. Just don't buy fender cause of the name. epiphone $125 guitars sound better to me. Don't be like me and spend your money on a lot of crappy guitars and then think back how if you had'nt bought all this crappy stuff you'd could afford a really great guitar right now.

Thanks for your input,

I'm not sure if they sell them in the US but I really like Simon & Patrick guitars. I guess they are a pretty small company, but they make a quality guitar for a good price. especially good value are the cheaper ones, like for around 200-300. I got a slightly more expensive one at 900 and it has a really nice ring to it. And the wood is from Quebec (a colder environment) so if you live in a more colder environment, the wood won't warp as much because its native. enough of my SP pitch. I think it partly depends on the type of music you want to play, what style you use (fingerpicking, hard strumming, etc.), and whether you intend to play with amplification or no (pickups are a whole 'nother topic). What are your preferences/requirements?

Personally I like Ovations quite a bit... but the quality is often reflected in higher prices.

Ovation, Taylor, Martin, Guild, and Seagull are all exceptional acoustics that you can find here in the US. Check them out.

Thanks for all the replies..Let me give some more info on my situation. I've been playing for a few months now and I enjoy playing blues/rock style music. I want an acoustic because I like the sound. As far as moolah goes, I can afford $200 - $400 at them moment. I've found a few web sites that seem to have great deals (far better than local stores). I played a Takamine and a Ibanez a few days ago. The both seemed well built, the Takamine having the better sound. Any of you guys have much experience with these?

Thanks again,

Jason

yo Jcarl a good idea is to just look on ebay for different brands just to let you know how much the ones you wan't run new and used and just to marvel the ones you wish you could afford right now.

I absolutely LOVE my Ibanez acoustic (PF5NT). It's a beautiful guitar and sounds wonderful. Of course, it's my first guitar so I really don't have anything to compare it to. I'm in the same position as you, jcarl24. I've only been playing for a little while. Less then 6 months. I got my Ibanez at a local music store for a very nice price ($175) and I love it. I don't think I could be any happier with an acoustic guitar. Hopefully this has helped you in some way.

I think I've just about narrowed down my choice.....I've got another question for you guys......Have any of you purchased a guitar online (from a site like music123?) While I'd love to support my local music stores, a couple hundered dollars difference is a big factor.

Thanks,

Jason

I just bought a guitar online from musician's friend. It arrived without any trouble.

If you want to exchange it, though, it would be a big hassle.

you might ask your local shop to match the online price. they might say no, but they might say yes.
