right now i'm watching the digital tv channel "the hits" and i'm amazed to see kerrang's top 100 rock videos. it's bloody strange to see rock on tv, it's as if the majority of the population of the world (or maybe just uk) is either into coldplay/madonna/britney spears or 100 africans drumming a beat and calling it the new amazingly different thing / world music.

i'm not saying rock music is the be all and all, i'm just saying that wow it's definately exited the mainstream in recent years (i'm not talkin about your chili peppers i'm talkin about your metallica/offspring/guns'n'roses etc.

will rock ever re-enter the more mainstream market?

Makes me wonder also.

I remember when MTV first came out. It was everything (all music styles) and 24 hours a day.

Now, you are lucky to catch the top 20 countdown (which always seems to be top 40 where did headbangers ball go?) becuase all they show now is reality TV crap, stupid game shows(road rules etc.), pimp my ride (do like that one from time to time :rolleyes: ) or what disgusting things can I find in a bedroom and where do they hide the porn (can't remember the name of that one).

It would be awesome to have music television back :(

yer it's like i dunno, i download all these music videos and can play them anytime, but there's a feeling when ure watching it on tv and u know that there are at least another 100,000 people watching the same show. i'm so hanging out to see metallica one video (it's gonna be in the top 10 i bet, that was a haunting video!)

FUSE-Sattelite?

Basic cable here so I only get MTV :mad: and VH1 which is becoming more like MTV each week.

But I did see an awesome show last night on PBS. They had a concert featuring Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire

you guys should watch pimp my ride UK...its real funny watching a 40 yr old white british dude dressed up like a hip hop dude trying to talk with 'attitude'...just like xzibit...(thats his name right? i forgot)

Oh dude a-f******-men. I love that channel. Their slogan is "More Music Less Crappy Tv." And their commercials for themselves with the creepy animations make it all the better.

Its pretty sad when the public television channels play more music than mtv or vh1. The only time I watch mtv or vh1 is for I Love the 80's and Viva la Bam / Wild Boys.

yea VH1 Classic is one of the only music channel's thats worth watching. Today is a live concert of Queensryche doing their Operation Mind Crime Tour.

VH1 Classic, MTV2, and MTVU (mtv university... you only get it on college campuses pretty much...) are the ones that I watch. I hate MTV with a passion. MTV2 shows a lot of rock and older stuff like Beavis and Butthead and Headbangers ball...

I think the main reason that rock and metal have excited the mainstream seen so much is because history is slowly repeating itself in the music industry. Todays youth have become fascinated with the style of classic rock. You notice a lot of younger kids wearing Zeppelin shirts around or wearing tight bell bottom jeans... long hair... they really embrace that culture right now. I think that's where you get bands like Wolfmother... in the top 100 because they are really appealing to that niche market... that just so happens to be the "hot" thing right now.

no offence at all too classic rock but it is extremely easy listening. i listened to wolfmother and it was put together well, everything was pulled off with grace, but the thing what i found lacking in it. .. .was well 2 things - originality and anything that inspires me to do things a different way, which i guess is originality. a lot of classic rock these days is manufactured for the masses so they can all shout out loud with their friends in the club "thunder, aaaaaaaaaah ahhhhhhhhh ahhhhh aaaaaaaaah aaaaaaah" and ever1's happy. True also that a lot of metal is kinda ordinary and uninspiring too, but then again some of the metal compositions are just awesome.

I LOATH the 'modern scene'.
We have 'Much Music'. It sucks.
It's funny because they show you the videos they're paid to show, and you have to like the select few they show you. Then they ask you your top 10 or whatever for their countdown...well what do they think you're going to pick...obviously what they feed you...ugh

It's all...Let's get ready to R.O.C.K. with fallout boy, Lindsay Lohan, Ashley Simpson, Hilary Duff.

All I get is VH1 and MTV. My friends watch the videos, but a, they're all rap, which is crap, (c-rap) and it's at five in the morning! As for mtv, I don't care about eight rich 20 year olds who make a tv show just to fight and become famous!
