I've been nothing but music theory the last week or so, i am really picking it up quick, the only problem is i am limited in practice because i only have 4 strings on my crappy guitar, i have the low E, A, D, and G, so i've been limited to my practice of scales and what not, its got to be pretty easy to restring it but i dont have the slightest clue how lol so is it really easy? ill be getting a new guitar soon any ways

my goal by the end of summer is to be able to play the riff in crazy babies

Try the beginner section, it should answer all your questions.

well you don't need a particular gauge. if you're the one who snapped the strings then i'll go for a 9-10 gauge set. theyre easy to play and don't snap... as easy. but as you play more you'll start to get your own preference of gauge.

if you're using an acoustic, i cant help you on the gauges cause i heard they're different.

look at schmange's link for how to string the guitar and stuff. good luck

Thats not entirely true, you always have to make sure your guitar can handle the string guage you want to put on...and its a good idea to have your guitar set up when changing guages.

You have an Epi Zakk Wylde right? so you dont really have a problem with tremo, and springs, so guage differences arent as important for you, as say, for someone with a floating trem equipped guitar.

that said, why will you be getting a new axe soon? the Zakk Wylde sig is a nice guitar, and as a beginner, you wont be out growing it for a while still...hell, you may never out grow that axe, (but that wont stop you getting more guitars)

my suggestion, (since you got the guitar so cheap, I presume you bought second hand? or off ebay or summin) is that you take it into your local dealer, and have them set it up, and replace the strings with a guage you are happy with...not only do you get new strings, but a well set-up guitar is so much more comfortable to play...a bad set up can ruin even an incredible guitar.

Don't cram too much theory. Try taking one concept at a time and getting a thorough undertanding of it before you move onto the next. It just makes learning pretty much anything easier.
