If not then don't be a dumb ass any longer. I went for the first time in about 15 years (give or take) because I've finally got the opportunity (insurance) as well as the motivation and responsibility to do so and I have 15 cavities, one of which needs a root canal. So yeah. Keep your teeth nice kids. They're your only set.

Amen to that.

I have 3 kids and 2 have had their permenant teeth covered by that "lacquer" to prevent cavaties. I am hoping it will last until they leave home, start their own careers, own insurance and pay their own bills. :D

Can be very costly if not taken care of when you are young.

yeah last year I had to get two wisdom teeth out because of decay in one. The couple of weeks before the surgery was like hell on earth. The toothache was so bad that I'd been without sleep for like nearly 4 days before the surgery.

I too have had some work done recently... I was having a problem with a filling that kept falling out in one of my front teeth.. Of course my insurance didn't cover what I needed... a crown, so I put it off like forever.. and just kept having the filling put back in...

This year I decided enough was enough and had them refer me to a dental school for the crown.. because it was less than half of the cost my dentist would charge...and I bit the bullet and got it done... A student did it, and man he was rough and it hurt alot.. but now its done and over with...

It really pays to look after your teeth.. its something we take for granted... but once you start having problems... it can be very painful.
Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.

I take the opposite point of view.
I've only had one cavity filled and it was the worse mistake I ever made.
Within 10 years the whole tooth broke apart. But instead of going back to a dentist, I just let it naturally work it's way out and heal itself. If I'd got it fixed, it would have cost $3000

While I was at that first and only dentist 25 years ago, he told me I had several other cavities that needed filling, but I declined.
All those teeth are still doing fine and even the one that broke out has healed itself. The only thing that ever went wrong with my teeth was making the mistake of getting one filled. Now that whole tooth is missing thanks to the dentist. The rest of my teeth are perfect.

My theory is that dentists are out to make money. They fake things like kids needing braces and filling teeth that don't really need it and then do a piss poor job so you end up going back to them years later.
The 6 month dental checkups are designed as a sales opportunity to scare you into getting work done that isn't necessary.

but some people need the dentistry. like i did, my teeth were broken in half and my roots were exposed. the only thing i could eat was apple sauce. so yea..

schmange wow you have like mutated teeth. i cracked one of my teeth by trying to unscrew some metal with my teeth and that part never grew back. man, teeth breaking and healing themselves. i wish mine did that. thats like emo teeth or something.

hehe, 20 years old, and never had a single cavity...ever! Dentists hate me...I only ever pay the consultation fee...the orthodontist used to love me, when I had braces...now I dont see that guy ever, so I'm not too sure what his feelings toward me are.

I'm with you schmange. My dentist is always trying to get me to buy crap that, by some crazy coincidence, isn't covered by insurance. The poor man. I guess he needs the money from the braces I don't need (and don't have, because I don't fall for his game) to fill up his Lexus. Or maybe it's for his Porsche. No, I am not kidding. This guy works in Teulon, the smallest you can get and still be called a town. So this guy has two $50, 000 dollar cars, something's up. I went through years of "appliances" because I had an "underbite", then because I had an "overbite", now my teeth are "crooked", then he wants to do surgery to cut up my jaw, the list goes on. He says in a few years he'll have to take skin from somewhere and put it over a tooth that apparently doesn't have enough? All he wants is money, nothing else. I know it sounds like I have the most messed up mouth in the world, but really there's nothing wrong with it. One time he had a "specialist" do a "biopsy" to take out something that was growing in the back of my mouth that he thought could be cancerous. It was a tooth. 100% serious, folks. Stay away from dentists.

I don't know. I guess some dentists are crooked, but that can be said about any occupation. My dentist is a nice honest guy.
