Well, it's all a matter of personal opinion, I suppose. I for one am more of an Angus fan, but I still acknowledge Eddie as a highly skilled player.

I really don't mean to be rude, but some of ya'll need to get out a bit more. Have a listen to Mike Batio sometime -- even when he's being boring and just playing one guitar at a time.

It doesn't matter to me... I don't really like either one of them... I listen to A LOT more ACDC than I do Van Halen... I can count on 1 hand the amount of times I have felt like listening to Van Halen... if any... I've never gotten into it. He's a great guitarist though... just don't prefer it.

I don't mean to be rude either :o, but I personally think that Batio is boring ALL of the time, whether he's playing one guitar or seven.

But it's all a matter of individual opinion, really.

Well, Angus has played the same song over and over again for the last 30 or so years.....

I like 'em both, but Eddie is who got me into playing guitar. He's one of my favorites of all time.

You can watch 15 seconds of Batio playing and you've pretty much seen everything he's going to do. He plays incredibly fast... wow... cool... Whatever puts the wind in your sail... He's great for what he is... but he bores me to death after I see him do the same stuff oever and over. Rusty Cooley owns Batio anyway.................. haha

I agree with JFRICK 100%. Rock n' roll is all well and good, but 14 or so albums of the exact same song is horrible.

That said, I don't like either of them too terribly much. I'll say Eddie because Van Halen was my first ever concert. Also, I love Unchained.

I foresee a thread movement in the near future.

Anyway, on the debate. I fail to see how they're a good comparison. They're two different generations and two different styles. If we were comparing Michael Angelo to Van Halen, however, that would be a better debate since they've got a lot more in common.

I'm guessing your a beggining guitarist, sorry if your not, buuut most people who haven't played guitar all that long usually pick people such as...Jimi hendrix, van halen, or angus young (or more commonly known, "that guy from ac/dc!). Not dissing anyone of these guitarists, but it just so happens that they are more popular to non guitarists.

Now... if your talking about technique wise, van halen hands down. Angus is also an awesome guitarist, not sloppy at all, I get ac/dc's live music confused with the studio stuff! He's in my opinion, great guitarist and better musician than van halen but VH is a better guitar player.

Vai kills then both! hahaha

Angus was never considered a great at his time. Just an good guitarist that happended to get famous off of ACDC. On the other hand Eddie was one of the biggest reasons Van Halen got the first album to hit 10 million sales.

As far as skill, its totally un-comparable. The are different. A better comparison would be Van Halen vs Randy Rhoads and Angus Young vs Ace Freshley

Agreed. I don't think Angus vs. Ace is a good comparison at all. Angus writes his OWN songs and plays his OWN solos - Ace just noodles around with borrowed licks over riffs that his rhythm guitarist wrote for him. I find Angus a much more interesting and talented player than Ace, Eddie and Batio put together. He plays articulate solos that people remember as much as the lyrics of the song. Ace and Batio imitate others; Angus, by contrast, gets imitated. I was listening to the Roadrunner United CD this morning, and I noticed that the first guitar solo in "The Dagger" is very similar to the solo from "Back In Black"!

Personally ACDC never inspired me much at all, some of my friends think it's the best thing eva and that's cool for them (we're all australian so maybe that's why) but they've got good solid songs and the guitar work is solid. But then again solidarity isn't what inspires me. Is it too cheap to add somebody like James Hetfield/Kirk Hammett to this debate? Although their guitar playing is pretty commercial some of their earlier compositions like on Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightening were breathtaking in my opinion.

I guess you have to define what you mean by best ... best as in fastest (satch?), most original(hendrix), most accurate(?), or most influencial(hendrix?)?

I remember reading in an interview that while solos are absolutely Angus' domain, Malcolm is AC/DC's primary songwriter.
