alternate tunings
ya hey guys. i need to know how to put my guitar into alternate tunings. can u work out alternate tunings from a tuner??. so just let me know if there any programs or any other way from which i can get alternate tunings thanks.

I didn't bother to go through them all, so there's probably a lot of overlap between the two. I really like the Sonic Youth tunings page. There's a lot of really bizarre, seemingly useless tunings on there.
And yes, you can use an electric tuner to get alternate tunings. Most tuners, anyway.

This is a really good question, this puzzled me when I started.
You're probably just best to google it.
As for the tuning, a chromatic tuner is best, just tune each string on the tuner to what the string should be in the alnernate tuning.

Heck, you can even make up your own tunings. I'm currently working on writing a song in EAEBDD tuning, which I'm fairly sure I invented.

My all-time favorite is one I modified from Zeppelin (and they prolly borrowed it from blues players):
CGCGCE = C Major (used on their songs, Hats Off to Roy Harper, and Friends)
CGCGCEb = C Minor (can be heard in my song, Monday)

im a bit of a fan of dropping the 6th string down a step to make booming powerchords really easy to do, so DADGBE / CGCFAD - afterall you can still play any song with DADGBE that relies on standard tuning as long as your not using the 6th string :P and when u want to crunch up the distortion and scare the cat you can pull a bar powerchord and switch really quickly :P
There's a certain satisfaction from playing Rammstein - Du Hast on DADGBE, it's hard to describe :P
