Stev Vai's fans!
Any advises on how to get Vai's sound setting?. I like the sound that he produced on 'For the love of god'

ok, im not a professional, but im a vai fan n i have some words for u...
focus on the equipment...
hes always prefer ibanez jem stuffs, so theyr all 24 fret n soundin like superstrat... so u can check out the specs o his guitars... u know, about pickups or tonewood etc...
i heard hes also like valvetronix things, that means he has tube n solid tone at the same time...
basically he use everything in limits... great tone range with screaming high ends...
these all i can say, please correct me if i twaddled... :o

He said Himself that a hug part of his sound is from his keely(modified) boss ds-1 distortion pedal. personaly i think his tone comes from his combination of high end pedals botique amplifiers and expensive rack modulation effects. he also uses the original digitech whammy which really allows his creative playing to show.

Even he admits his "guitar sounds" are more from different effects , Eventide, "boutique amps"-- LOVED That one! etc.
A good inexpensive toy would be the Digitech GNX series.
This has a ton of pre loaded "sounds" and if I remember correctly some are even titled after the songs they were "copied" after. you can create your own and play like 8+ different effects at the same time. HOW COOL IS THAT!?!?!
Price around 250--350 US

Me Again. Check out the thread in the gear and effects section. They are discussing the latest model(digitaech GNX) with all the bells and whistles. Maybe that could help you find the sound you are looking for.

got mine on Ebay for 200. ;)
mmm. I guess its okay for a vai sound. not nearly the same. but there are some nice effects on it. and the ability to run 9-10 at once is real nice.
