So there's this girl...Kidding. :rolleyes:

My real question is, what are people talking about when in the context of pickups, amps, and distorion when they say 'breaking up'. Like, "It breaks up nicely" and such?

Sounds like the latest 'cool' phrase...
..sorta like 'it sounds nifty', 'this amp is groovy man', 'that sound is outa-sight'

Referring to tube amps, when the amp "breaks up", it means the tubes are being pushed hard and they are creating "tube saturation" or "tube overdrive". This is THE rock sound.

Its a blues player thing, riding the edge of breakup. Hit the string hard you push it into distortion hit it gently you keep it nice and clean.
