I'm new
My name is Gregg. I have been playing for 28 years. My influences are Uli Roth, Yngwie, Paul Gilbert, Eric Johnson, DiMeola, Holdsworth. I have listened to a lot of guitarists in my time and have gotten a little from all of them. My early favorites were Hendrix, Frank Marino, Robin Trower, Randy Rhoads. I look foward to chatting with you.

Hi Gregg. Come on in buddy. The natives are friendly, and I hear helpful too. I've been playing for 'a while' too. Are you a working (pro) musician, semi-pro in a band, or leisure player?
I saw a Yngwie 'instruction video' once at a friend's house. He said 'I will now show you a couple of licks'. He then spend the next 20 minutes, tearing up and down the board, at 500MPH. You couldn't see what the hell his fingers were doing, and when he stopped he just sat grinning at the camera.
That's not instruction - that's just showing off!! ;)

Welcome Gregg. :D This is a great forum.
Hehe, you might not want to mention Yngwie around here too much, unless you care to begin a huge riot of Yngwie Torching.

As far as my resume goes I have 2CDs released independantly world wide with my current band. I have done several other ep's also with past bands I've been in. I have opened for many National acts such as Dio, Lynch Mob, Dokken, Mr Big, Gregg Howe, Steve Morse, Vince Neil, Leslie West, Ratt, Michael Schenker and many others. I was signed to Frontier/Now and Then Records in England for a while but they had very little money for recording so I asked to be released. When I was in High School Frank Marino was the Yngwie of the time. He was a very fast, awesome yet commercially unappreciated guitarist. I look foward to speaking with you all.

Well I understand what your saying about the great swede. Unlike Paul Gilbert who will show his lessons slowly, Yngwie is of a different mindset. I have met him twice and both times he was fairly nice. The first time I met him he was opening for Dio at the Mid Hudson Civic Center in August of 90. This was after Jens Johansen left him to play keys for Dio. I gave him my original strat neck as a gift when I met him downstairs and he was very appreciative. The second time was in NY city. I went down to the Royalton Hotel, with a friend, where he was staying with his tech Jeff Horn. He was in town to discuss a new record deal after he had been dropped by Polygram. He was very drunk, dressed to the nines and blasting cest' la vie on a small boom box. He locked himself in his own bathroom for 20 minutes and couldn't get out. That's how drunk he was.

I must admit, that is quite an impressive list to have opened for...so tell me, is Yngwie really as big an arsehole as his reputation suggests?

Actually my CD can be ordered online. The name of the band is LIVESAY. Yngwie was not an asshole to me personally although as I said, the second time I met him he was sloshed. It was Yngwie, Jeff Horn, my friend Al Romano and myself in his suite at the Royalton and Yngwie was very drunk. If it wasn't for Jeff being with him, Yngwie would have never made it back to Florida. He was registered under the name "Mr. Ferrari". It was a little disheartening to see such a larger than life guitarist slurring his words. He is a big boy though. I am 6-2 1/2 and he was taller than me. I have big hands but his were huge! This was also before he put on so much weight. Anders and Jens johansen were both very nice guys though and at the time very pissed off at Yngwie. He had left them in the dark before Live In Lennigrad came out. He owed them money and they weren't even sure if they were still in his band anymore. Turns out that was it for them with Yngwie. They were not with him though. They were living in a very small apartment in Dobbs Ferry NY for about 2 months. That's where I met them.

He registered under "Ferrari?" That's hilarious!
