Hi, I was jamming with the lads this week and it came out that I am not the only one to have a name for my babe (GUITAR)that is. So I was woundering if we are not alone one's to do this, Knowing it may be odd.

My Fender strat is called BUFFY because she is sexy and kick's some seriouse arse.

MY Dot is called MISTY My 6 yearold named this one from the pokemon craze.

My Ibaneze is called MADGE after madonna becaues like the real one she's been about a bit.

My Simon & Pattrick is called SIMONE from the name simon and I used to fancy a girl with said name.

AS sad as it may be 8 of us out of the 11 admitted to nameing our guitars and the others were to ashamed to admitt it or lacked the imagination to do it in the first place.

I've only named two of the 8 instruments I've owned. They came sponatiously, and seem to have no bearing on my like for the instrument: My favorite instrument, my four string jazz bass has no name, but my strat is called "Purdy" (because it is), and my old five string (which I traded in a while ago) was called "Pig."

...is what I call my old, black Yamaha SBG 1000, because its the standard I compare everything else to. Since '86, the V I got a couple weeks ago is the only axe that I suspect might be better.

Well, I don't have any particular names that I have really stuck with over the past several years, just some very impulsive names like Sweetie, baby, pumpkin pie. Which is one of the reason my ex-fiance felt I was neglecting her,, go figure.

Not just me then......

Joseph all woemen get a little jeleous if we show affection else where for some strange reason, and they probably see the guitar as a real threat. (in most cases they are!)But hell the guitar don't answer back ar ask stupid questions.

I don't know, I guess they feel as if we have more of a personal connection with our favorite instruments then we do with them. That, and we don't play with them as often. With the guiar, we are in control, and I guess for some people, they don't want us to get used to that feeling.

I don't know about you guys, but I'de part with both kidneys and a lung before I gave up my prized Jazz Bass. I think our favorite instrument becomes a living breathing part of ourselfs (or it should anyway), and that is a concept that most people who don't play won't understand...
You know, it's all part of the package.

Some ladies may be right to feel threatened!

Dig a little deeper... women place major importance on communicaton. Is there anyone we communicate better with than our instruments, and our bandmates?

A good woman is as responsive, and every bit as demanding, and rewarding, as that special axe. 'Too bad they're both hard to find!

I'm a firm believer in naming all my instruments. My two favorites are my Strat Vicki (bought in Victorville CA) and my Tele Loretta....she's a country girl.

Hey guys......

I want you to know there are some women who understand...now I don't have a name for my guitar yet...maybe I'll think of one soon as it helps me through hard times coming up....I think I will be playing a lot more. Just wanted you all to know I wouldn't feel threatened by a love for an instrument as long as you taught me everything you knew...I wanna be a good player!!! I'm trying..just learned a new song ;) l8r -Robyn

I'de assume that's because you play and know exactly what we're talking about. Regardless, we're here to help.

good question r_moreno7, as a male guitarist I give mine lady's names, so it would make sense for you to name it after males but try to avoid the popular male names such as cheavenist pig, B******, sexist male etc.etc.(LOL)

Oh, we all whant to be better and it is hard but try not to doubt your level of ability, as guitarists we are our own worst critics, I myself have times when I feel that I am getting no better then when I look back I realise that I have come a long way.

Hope you achieve your goals and enjoy the guitar.

TFF Fender.... Hey maybe I should name him Fenderblues except he's an Ibanez so he prolly wouldn't like that too well lol. Thanks for the words of encouragement...I'm really having fun and I think that is the most important part. Will learn if I'm having fun!! Now to think of some good names..any suggestions? -Robyn

Well you could call it DENE, it's a good name for a guitar and it's spelling is better than the ordanary Dean. It just happens to be mine as well so it can't be bad, or can it.

As long as you keep your playing fun it works well it's when it gets a chore you need to rest and have a drink to chill out then when you pick it up again you find easy and fun again.

(Oh, the name mean's = a wandering man in a valley with a rolling stream, corny, but my old man thought it was cool at the time.)

Aight, Dene it is...I like it. Handsome name for a handsome guitar. Dene and I are gonna be gettin real close ;)

Just a quick question...when you were learning did you focus on scales and all that or did you just learn different songs? I'm not really doing any excercises or scales. I have a few friends teaching me the songs they know, will I improve just trying out songs, or should I focus on learning the basic stuff first?

-Robyn

p.s. think it would be cool to have lessons...coming in the future after I sell my house and get some money wehay!!!
