alright, so most of you know I have an ibanez GRX40, well, last week I got a second one. I got it used, and it was only $75. so I figured why not. I bought it as a project guitar, so hopefully soon the only thing original on it will be the body neck and fingerboard. I have alot of plans for it, starting with straplocks and a strap. which I plan on getting soon (though I may have to delay the project if I decide I want to get an xbox 360.. and I really do want one!) anyways, I have a question, do you think I could get a strat type pickguard onto it? I want to change the pickup combonation, probably to H/H or H/S/H and I know it has a universal pickup cavity, so all I would need to do to do that would be to get a new pickguard. so do you think one made for a strat (one from stewmac) would fit it? here's pictures of an ibanez (not mine, I'm too lazy to go take a picture of mine, so I took some pics from google) and a strat
Oh, and btw, I now have a GRX 40 in black, and one in jewel blue, now all I need is red and I can collect all three!!!
EDIT: upon side by side comparison of the two pictures, I realize the strat pickguard probably won't work.. hmm, maybe I'll just buy one of those blank pickguard things from stewmac, where you cut out your own shape.
yay! I got a new guitar!

can you tell me, is grx40 the same guitar as grx140?

no, its not the same as far as I know...I would assume the 140 is a slightly better model.
6strngs... you're right, I dont think that pick guard will fit man...but anyway...you're gonna wanna put BareKnuckle pickups in this axe

I've never heard of a 140, however, upon looking it up, they look identical, so I'd say they are probably the same.
and Bareknuckle pickups? never heard of them. I was thinking dimarzio, probably a tone zone for the bridge, but still undecided for the neck and middle pickups (if there will be a middle pickup) this guitar is going to turn into my metal machine. so I need some nice high gain pickups. I don't want to do EMG's though for some reason, I couldn't give a real reason why not, I just would rather have some nice high output passive pickups.

well, if you put it as and h/s/h you might have to change your name!
6strngs_2hmbkers_1mdlepu! But seriously, id put in the middle single coil just to have a good clean sound every once in a while.

well, there is the ibanez GRX20, which is the exact same guitar except with a H/H configuration. but I'll look and see if I can't find an RG model or something that has a H/S/H pickguard. I'll be checkin craigslist and ebay for something to come up.
as for pickups, I have already decided on the Tone zone for the bridge, I just don't know what neck p/u to get. as for having a middle p/u to get clean sounds, well, I was planning on adding in series/parallel switching, and perhaps phase switching or coil taps, but I don't really know what those two are, they just sound cool.. lol
EDIT: the only ibanez I found that is front mounted with H/S/H configuration is the JEM so... I guess I'm looking for JEM pickguard, hopefully I'll be able to find one reasonably priced!

I think this should fit

the black/green/black thing would look pretty sweet too

I happen to like the DiMarzio Tone Zone for the bridge, but you say you want to focus this axe for metal, right? So, put the Tone Zone at the neck, and get a DiMarzio X2N for the bridge. That's the highest output passive pickup on the market, so it can definitely overdrive any amp you plug into. But what makes it interesting is that it cleans up nicely when you turn it down, and that adds some useful versatility.
