Traditionally, my lead guitar style has been quite controlled and lyrical. Lately, however, as my fluency has been improving, I've been subconsciously picking up speed and throwing in finger-tapping lines - I'm turning into a shredder! I used to play nice, mellow jazz and blues; now, I sound like the bastard child of Kirk Hammett and Robben Ford! I was wondering whether anyone had any tips to help me slow down and feel the music.

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Actually, i like to mix some shred and blues every once in a while. It's actually really fun! Instead of your basic blues techniques you can throw in some others like tapping, or sweep picking, or throw some giant paul gilbert string skips in their. it's all up to you. Shred isn't all about speed! Actually when you really think about it, alot of shred music relates closer to classical music than anything else. People say some classical music has no emotion. which is blatently untrue. It has emotion, it just brings it out in different ways. it show emotion with complex melodical lines, and sometimes advanced skills and techniques. the same is true for shred.
It's not SPEED = EMOTION! (some people might get that :D )
