Hey all, would appreciate if you could listen to this new thing Im working on. Its for my heavy Christian project. There is no production yet, just want opinions on the parts. I use Riffworks as a scratchpad and will arrange and record it when I get it all figured out.

www.myspace.com/howardkolb and click on "New Song in the works"

Thank you for taking the time.

Good playing man, I can tell you are talented. For me the song just didn't go anywhere, no harmonic movement. I guess that's just the style though, I'm more into classic 80s metal.

As you lie awake in bed
With the echoes from the amplifiers
Ringing in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette

Pretty damn good! The arpeggiated movement in the beginning was a bit hypnotic, but when the breakdown kicked in, I was like, "Hey!" And the lead guitar rocked as well. Excellent work :)

Nice playing man, I like the exotic melody around the solo break - has a kind of ancient eastern feel to it. That's along similar lines to the type of stuff I play at the moment. Interesting bio too! You planning on recording a full length version? I reckon there is a lot of scope to make a nice instrumental with this material. I would like to see a groove made with the Eastern melody and a heavy accompaniment that kind of spirals off to a few new ideas. Post back when you're done!

Just wanted to say thanks for all of the feedback, I really appreciate it. Gonna do some tweaking and rearranging this weekend and then work with some vocals, once it gets a little closer to being done I will definetly post it again.

The boy can play :D

Vocals, lyrics and a song are desparately needed, but pretty impressive all the same.

Cheers

the master has spoken.. thanks for all the negativity schmange! at least you could have said something positive in addition to something negative.. then it doesn't sound as mean.. but oh well, I suppose he can take it, he's not a little emo biyotch.

anyways, good riffs throughout, but as schmange said, it gets a little boring in it's repetetiveness, I'm sure it'll be much better with vocals, but as an instrumental song it's repetetive. I like the lead work, except when you came in with the blazing solo over top of that slower lead riff.. the two seperately were cool, but shouldn't have been played at the same time. anyways, pretty good though, I'd like to hear it when it's more complete!

Hey I appreciate all comments good and bad!! If you put something out there and ask for opinions, you want honesty. The reason why I asked is Im not sure on the direction of the song. :) As a musician we all should know not everyone is gonna like the music you write. I do appreciate the honesty!!

Negative comments are what help you get better.
If everybody keeps saying 'wow..really nice song', just to be nice, you'll never know what you're doing wrong.
I get negative comments all the time & find they really help.

well, I know that, I was just saying that you could have said something positive in addition to something negative, and then it just doesn't sound as cold-hearted and mean. for example, I said something negative and something positive.

I'm positive I didn't like it? :p
..kidding...
Ok, I listened to it again. There's some interesting ideas but it needs a lot of work. More interesting drum patterns to break up the monotony. Maybe bring the drums in on the off beat just for the suprise. Speed it up so that the guitar playing sounds more impressive and cut each of the 4 bars down to 2 so there are more changes happening more often. Then if you're making it into a complete song it'll need backup instruments, maybe some keys, bass and vocals.

Seriously guys, its all good, love it, hate it, the song is just in sketch form right now. I will take the provided input and process it. No hard feelings here, again, I just appreciate the time you all took to listen to an old fat guitar hack play his song.

Shall we all hold hands and sing Kum By Ya... HA HA :) :)
