I don't know what bothers me so much is that when you see the guitarists play their stuff it looks so easy but when I try to play it it looks totally stupid. I mean even if I am able to play it I still don't have this relaxed look. My fingers simply don't look so relaxed, do you also have this? This sucks. :(

How would you play this here?

depends on how fast it is supposed to be played, I try to avoid using my pinky though in fast plays I use it to overcome the distance between the frets

I'd play this piece by using the finger between my pinky and middlefinger (I don't know the name :p) for the 4's on both strings and play the 2's with my index finger, then the 5's with my index and the 7's with the same finger as the 4's, then switch to my index again for the 2's :) unless I gotta switch really fast between the 7's and the 2's then I use my pinky for the 7's

I'm curious how you play it
= good music is good drinking =

There are different ways to play it but I don't know which way is best.
It is played at a moderate speed. It's the beginning of "tornado" from Adema. Maybe you can listen to this song on the net.

For example I already don't know how to play the two 4s at the beginning. When you both play them with the same finger then it's not that easy to move this finger down to get off from the lowest string.

I would play the 2 with the indexfinger and also the 5 and the 7s.

alright. note by note instructions (in the way rockonn91 would play)

so put one finger (try ring) on the fourth fret, A string. and one finger (try middle) on the fourth fret, E sting. with your pick, pick the E string twice, then play the A string once. then E string twice again, followed by the A string. then play E string once, then A string once again. after that, take off your finger on the E string, leaving your fretted A finger. then play the open E string twice, A sting once. repeat. then open E once, fretted A once. then (still leaving your ring finger on that fourth fret!) put a finger (try index) on the second fret of the E string. then play that the same way you did the other two times. after thats done, slide your ring finger up one fret onto the 5th, play the E string twice, then the 5th fret once. then, this could be tricky for a beginner. take your ring finger and put it on the 7th fret of the E string, play it 5 times, then slide down, putting your index finger on the second fret, E string, and bar the fourth frets of the A and D strings with your ring finger.

*whew* let me know if you that helps or if you need any more note by note instructions. :p

Thanks, that's a way to play it. :)

What simply bothers me is that even though this isn't so hard to play the way I play it looks totally stupid and strained. But when you see the Adema guitarist play it it looks so easy. But when I play something it always looks so strained and all the fingers look strained and aren't relaxed. But when you watch the rock stars play their stuff they always look relaxed. :(

The relaxation will come in time. The longer you play the guitar, the more a part of your body it becomes. Sorry if I can't be any more helpful than this. Just keep practicing and learning harder stuff and sooner or later, the stuff you thought was hard early on will be easy for you and you'll be able to play it relaxed.

The rock stars make it look so easy because they play thier songs a cazillion times, they came up with the lick ( is always easier to do your own lick) and they play about 6 to eight hours a day...

But what if a guitarist wants to cover a song? Does he also have to practice it for hours?

try days or weeks if you want to do it alright. if you want to do it great, try months.

Really?

If for example Metallica want to cover an AC/DC song then they have to practice it for weeks until they can play it?
This is kind of hard to imagine.
Or when Metallica for example write songs then can they directly play their songs well or do they first of all have to practice them?

well if you want to do anything right, its best to take the extra time and to it perfectly.

i bet a talented band like Metallica could do an easy AC/DC cover in a week or two. but some band that just got together would have to practice it like a month dedicatly if they wanted it to sound good together.

and even when you write your own stuff, chances are everyone in the band wont be able to play it right the first time. theres all the communication problems, etc. its always taken my band longer to do our own songs then a cover- the main reason being that with a cover, you have a clear idea of what it sounds like, and a clear idea of what needs to be done with it. with your own stuff, the options are endless. this makes it both fun and challenging.
