Marshall Jcm 900 head
I have been offered a marshall jcm 900 amp head in full working order and perfect condition, it is obviously used but I need a new amp with more volume and higher sound quality, I haven't yet tried it myself but I was wondering if any owners of this amp out there could tell me the amount I SHOULD be paying, whether you would recommend it (I mainly play metal) and what cabs i would be best off using it with.

their good amps and there are alot of defferent versions of them....i have only used the 100 what hi gain one...but ive heard that the duel reverb ones are really good....a used one usually goes for around 500 to 800$$ but ive seen them on ebay for like 450$$....for the cab...ive only used it with my mesa cab and it sounded really good but you have too turn it up really loud to get that nice tone..what is your buddy looking for you to pay??

I had a JCM 900, 50 watt dual reverb, model 4500. Sold it for $500 just last week.....
It's not the worst amp in the world, but it's not close to being the best either. The low's were really muddy, and contrary to it saying "hi-gain" on the front of it, it's not a high gain amp....I could get some good bluesy tones with it though. Overall, it's a really muddy amp, but, I could have had a "bad" one, as they say that's how it goes with Marshall's....same model played beside an identical model will sound different.
I'd suggest looking into something different, unless you've heard it and like the tone.
The Marshall JCM 900 cabinet was the match for it, although I have a Marshall 1960ax cab with 25 watt greenbacks. I kept the cab....

well he's now also going to sell his cab with it, he's asking for around £600 for the head and cab but its not a jcm cab, I am not yet sure what it is, but i do know that the head does not sit perfectly on the cab as they are not made for each other. Would i regret it later if i bought it?
