Crate Slide Guitar Set-up

I have an old Crate Electra (I never knew Crate made guitars, but it was my first one) and I converted it to an Electric Slide guitar. I know typically the action is high on Slide guitars, but also I know the strings are heavier. I am tuned down to Open-D so I want to add some tremolo springs for tension, only when I opened the back, the wires are soldered right on the tremolo spring holes. Is there anyway I can a.) get new electronics to better equip my slide guitar of b.) should I just unsolder and resolder? I know the points are just for grounding, so I can move it easily, but would new electronics be better?
