Ok, some of you know me as a hater of the PODxt. I've never been able to get any decent settings out of mine so it's been sitting in a box full of wires gathering dust. I know I'm not the only one who can't get a decent tone out of one of those things BUT I do admit that some people can get a great sound out of theirs.

So why not dedicate this thread to posting the best settings from members who know what they're doing? It would be very usefull for anyone with an xt if this thread were to take off. So if you love your POD and you have good tones, please share them!!

I'll try to post some of my settings sometime this week. It's really not that hard to get some good tones out of it if you know a few tricks. >Here's< a post I made a while back with a few tips. Do a search in this section, the gear discussion section, and the recording section, and you'll find a lot of post talking about the XT. Maybe not what you're looking for, but you might find some helpful info. Again, I'll try to get some settings up later this week, and possibly with some clips of each.

It would be nice though if one thread could contain a large number of settings so that anyone searching for PODxt settings would know where to look. Good tips in that post by the way... time is my main problem when it comes to tinkering with hardware... I get so little time to play that when I do get into my home studio all I want to do is plug and play. I tried looking for tones on line6.com but there are so many bad ones there that I lost interest.

I know what you mean about the Line 6 tones. Have you checked in their forum? I haven't been there in a good while, but last I was there, there were some folks with some really good settings. >Here's< the link to the POD section of their forum.

I checked the forum alright but it takes so long to find a good patch. Most of the patches are the same as those in the model packs or they are named after a Metallica track, which inevitably sounds completely different. Anyway, it would be cool if you could post some settings. BTW, I did find a useful patch on the model packs called "Broken Wah", I'm using it for atmospherics on a new studio track. I'll post the settings later.

Do you have all of the model packs? The only one I have is the metal amp pack, which came with my PODxt when I bought it. I find my favorite amps to be the Soldano SLO100, 5150(Criminal), Spinal Puppet, Vox AC30, Marshall JTM45, and the Fender Double Verb. The "Big Bottom" model sounds great for that tight super high gain stuff, but it doesn't sit in the mix very well, unless you use a very similar tone to go with it. I'll try to get my PODxt hooked up tonight so I can get a few patches up.

Yeah, I got the three model packs. Spinal Puppet sounds good through a Marshall 1000DFX using the preamp to colour the tone but I found it lacking punch when I fed it straight into the pc and out through the studio monitors. It's probably the tightest of all and comes reasonably close to the Ma\ster Of Puppets rhythm tone. I probably like the overal tone of Big Bottom the most too but the problem with this setting is there is a lot of extraneous noise and hiss... I wonder will Line6 ever design an update that can reduce these problems from the high gain settings without having to use the noise gates? NG's kind of wreck tone around the edges for me. I don't know if it's possible to email model packs... if you know how, PM me and I'll send you over those packs.
Seeing as you're a tone junky too, check out the interview on www.angelo.com about the new Michael Angelo Batio cd "Hands Without Shadows". I listened to a few of the mp3 clips on guitar9.com and he has some amazing tones, almost all completely dry too (unlike his earlier FX driven tones). He got al of the lead tones using Dean guitars through basic Marshall amps with Dual Rectifiers for the rhythm beds. Interesting explaination of how this was achieved for each track on his site.

Model packs aren't transferable between POD's. You have to buy a license for each before they will work. Thanks for the offer though.

I made a few clips last night playing the same rythm riff with 5 different settings. I'd be glad to e-mail you the clip if you want, or I could upload it to soundclick. Would you want to hear the clips dry/by themselfs, or in a mix (double tracked, bass, and drums), or both? I'm not much of a lead guitarist at all, but I have a really good lead tone using the Soldano model that I might could throw some light lead on to give you an idea of it's tone, but don't expect much from the playing. I'm at work right now (8:15a.m.), so it will be this evening before I can get anything sent or uploaded.

In a mix would be good as that's how they'd end up anyway... soundclick would be easiest as my email is pretty full at the moment. Pity about the PODxt model packs. In work too, whenever I post that means I'm in the office skiving off work;-)

I'll try put a full mix of something together tonight. I'll pan the guitars hard left and hard right so you can separate them to see what they sound like individually.

Finally got something put together. It's not that great playing wise, but I think it turned out ok. All guitars are all PODxt. No post recording eq or anything was added. The rythm guitars used the Big Bottom model. Left has the tubescreamer on, and right doesn't. No other effects were added. The lead (if you can call it that) has some reverb and delay from the PODxt. Below are some screenshots of the patches. The PODxt's post eq for the Big Bottom patch was as follows... Band 1: 160hz/+4, Band 2: 800hz/+5, Band 3: 1.8Khz/+1, Band 4: 8Khz/-3. The Soldano patch just has a -6 roll off at 100hz on band 1. Here's the link to the song: PODxt Sample

Nice POD sounds man, got me tinkering with the old girl again;-) I have a couple of nice ones but don't know how to insert an image... tried a few times but can't get it... what the html needed? Those rhythm sounds work well with a bassline allright, nice lead tone too.

When you're posting a reply, above the message window there are a few icons. One is a yellow square that looks like it has a mountain and a sun on it. Click that button and insert the link to where you have the picture hosted. You must have the picture hosted on a website such as photobucket.com to do this. If you're a high-bandwidth member, you can scroll down and click on the manage attachments button to attach an image from your computer.
