i'm tired of getting $10 for the entire band for gigs in my town. apathetic musicians here say "i play music cause i like to...not for the money" therefore we continue to get screwed. bars now don't charge covers...get three bands and give them 1/4 of the drink profits which you trust them to give you. a bar with 100 people only yields us $10 for the whole band. they used to (20 years ago) give you 3 sets for 1 band to play and you would get $300-$400 a night. am i just greedy and i'm in music for the wrong reason? the music brings in the people.

Most clubs around here (Columbia, SC) pay the bands with the door charge instead of a percentage of the bar take. It's the fairest way really, the more people the band brings in, the more they get paid. When we play shows, we request this and set the door charge at $5 over 21 and $7 under 21. Works out well, the club gets all the money from the bar and the band(s) get the money from the door.

I suggest requesting the door charge thing when you play shows....even if the bar doesn't usually do this.
