Probably for the same reasons that christians and other religious people feel the need to prove that he does exist.

And you don't think that atheists are capable of making the same actions? There are plenty of atheists that were at one point on the line of suicide or have recovered from a history of drugs. What'd they do? They evaluated the situation and said "I've got to change this" and they happened to have the dedication and determination to change it. Not everyone needs God to make a big decision.

If thats what brainwashing is, then I dont agree with the definition of brainwashing. Its not like Im in a freekin trance that Im not able to snap out of due to my parents "brainwashing" me when I was little. I can think for myself and Ive disagreed with my parents a few times on things because they are even more conservative than myself.

So you're going to argue with the dictionary definition of brainwashing? What brainwashing to you is isn't what brainwashing is. Yeah, sure you've disagreed, but that doesn't change the fact that your upbringing has definitely impacted the angle which you view from. If you grew up in China, the chances are you'd think that Christianity was all crap because there's veritably no Christian influence there. Buddhism is the prime religion there. The parents of a child are and always will be the biggest influence on a child's life. Namely because the child grew up with their parents and their parents in turn were readily able to bestow all of their beliefs unto this child. Some stick, some don't. It's still crafting a child to believe the same things that make sense to them. In my case it just turned out that my mom didn't really care to make me in her image. My dad would probably lay on the chrisian influence if he knew of my beliefs in hopes he could save my soul or something, but my mom. She basicall encouraged me to find what made sense to me. She's a Christian by choice, but she doens't expect me to be one. Granted I don't think she expected me to gravitate towards atheism, but all the same. I see how the pieces fit.

Your parents taught you to crap in the toilet because thats socially acceptable and thats what they do, but in reality you could go crap outside and things would be fine. Does that qualify you as brainwashed?

How come other animals don't crap in toilets? Their parents haven't been teaching them that it's wrong to **** all over the place? Hell, some animals are wretched enough to go and make homes out of their own feces. You don't see them griping. We are the only creature on earth that has created a place for our bowels and we've since taught all of our young that it's wrong to go outside of that confined space. That's brainwashing. Personally, though, even if we did crap all over the place, I think I'd still prefer a toilet since I can't imagine the ground offering that same comfort and relaxation that you get when you sit on a toilet and pass the time. That's just my opinion though.

I could've told you that.

But would it still be brainwashing since my dad was never really around to influence me into his beliefs and my mom just told me to figure things out myself? Well, I still crafted my thoughts based around how I was brought up. If my dad was around more or if he even talked to me once in a while I'd probably have a different view on things. This is just how I've adapted. I've just come to accept it as this.

Side note: How do you know where I crap? My cats have a litter box. I might use that instead? I've got a trash can. I've got windows I can sling my poop out of. Who needs toilets?

Hey, whatever works I guess. I crapped in my toy box when I was little and it was in there for 2 months. Also used to crap in toilet paper and put it in the streets and watch cars run over it..........But I was only 17 then and I think Ive matured a lot in this last year.

I definately do think atheists are capable of these actions. I know not everyone needs God to make a big decision. My point was just that I don't see why being a christian is such a mistake that needs to be changed.
For life is quite absurd and death's the final word, You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

It's not, as long as they aren't hypocritical.

It's not really. The problem I have is they try and pass it off as scientific fact when there is no fact in faith. If there was fact in faith then it wouldn't really be faith, more so general knowledge. And that' the basis of it, is that it is faith. It's a belief that if they believe all the stories in the bible regardless of how irrational they are then blessings will come. And that's fine by me, 100%. But when it's so obviously faith then it just makes feel like I've been poked every time someone tries to explain the irrational with rational methods.

After all a relationship is just two people living their own lives together.

I stand corrected.

Religion has definitely "saved" a lot of people from their addictions, sadly they often don't actually get over their addictions, they jsut supplant it with said religion. They're addicted to the religion, they need it to survive, and without it they are lost and aimless and subject to all the horrible things around them. Here's a thought: try to work through an addictive personality, not switch focus from something harmful to something harmless, because the problem is still there. Plus these are the nutjobs who end up giving their denomination a bad name, because they're so obsessed with it they close their minds to the notion that things can exist outside their obsession that are good.

Look at the televangelists, and all their addictions. Coke. Crack. Underage kids. Secretaries. Rolexes. Cars. Money. If you still have that element to your personality and you've shifted the focus, you haven't won, you've jsut brushed it aside, and as soon as your old addiction presents itself... hey ho.

And that pretty much makes life a series of addictions. A series of brainwashed addictions. Nice to know we all have direction in our life.
