i am really wanting to copy the neck profile of an Ibanez Wizard 7 string guitar neck. not the wizard 2 or jem, the first wizard. the thinnest and fastest neck in my opinion. question is, how do i go about copying the profile, or the whole neck in general? maybe i could use some sort of scanning equipment. any ideas? i don't want to use the headstock, that is something i will design for myself. i just want the neck to be the same.

I tried doing that for a project. The way I did it was by measuring the width at the nut and at the end of the last fret, the depth of the neck at its deepest point (radius), the distance between the nut and the bridge (for fret calculations), the fretboard length and the depth of the neck joint. You'd have to cut the bottom of that to fit into what ever guitar body you have though. Make sure you measure it specifically.

Try this...scroll down till you get to the neck work.

the whole project is excellent and I will try to copy it step by step early next year.

Good luck.

that is one cool machine, where can get one of those? the whole process seems so easy. easier than what i thought it would be. it would make my day easier to copy certain necks for myself.

ok, this isn't about necks but the balance of the guitar. where is the balance point on most guitars? or where would be a good place to shoot for?

centre of gravity is where the proportion of length and weight on either side of a pivot are equal.

basically, somewhere where it'll balance on a stick, like near the middle :)

I think a lot of people make them..and the web site for copy curves is given in the page somewhere IIRC.

I like the fatter necks...but I'm not thinking of building one.

Have you browsed the Warmoth site?

Quality and no pain... :D
