What song would you think would be the best to change into modern era rock?

I myself am working on "Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkle.

If by "Modern Era Rock" you mean like Creed, Shinedown, Nickelback, Korn, etc., then may God have mercy on your soul. If you mean like Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth, then GO FOR IT!

I think he meant Nevermore covered it.

I haven't heard it if they did and I am searching for it now.

Hall of the Mountain King sounds rocking any way you play it, including the original.

Do a rap song but with guitar.

I have a theory that if someone like say Paul Gilbert ( he's a fun loving guy, lets choose him... :D ) were to feature in a Rap music video playing a kick ass guitar solo. All the 75% of America will go WOAH!!! I WANT TO PLAY GUITAR!!!

The reasons why all of the bands we like are not famous is because they dont expose themsleves into the music industry. They need to take risks, and not care if anyone thinks they are a sellout.

If a guitarist were to feature in say a guy like Usher's music and play a very soft, goosebumpy solo that makes everyone mesmerized, then the public will want to imitate. Or is someone remakes a cool rap beat on distorted guitar, but cool enough to dance too, then it will make people hear what else is out there.

To the regular public, guitar is just seen as a drunk, doped up people with tattoos shouting about the devil and peaching sex. But there is so much more than that. And not many people know that. Plus all this punk crap is adding fuel to the fire of giving guitar a bad reputation.

I actually heard a christmas song the other day, and I thought to myself "man, that would be really cool if it were played like this..." so, I'm going to dig up the cd, as I'm sure my mother has it on one of her christmas cd's. and we also have some old ass christmas sheet music, from when my mom took piano lessons before I was born (we don't even own a piano) so I'm going to take those, along with any tabs I can find on the internet, sit down, write my own version of it. record it. and post it on here on christmas eve. so be sure to check the listening post on christmas eve (if I ever get around to doing this)

If you want to do a Simon & Garfunkel song, I think "Hazy Shade Of Winter" has better possibilities for you.

Bear in mind that most of the great songs from back then relied heavily on vocal harmony. That doesn't seem to be happening these days. I remember getting into music in a big way because of the amazing vocal arrangements John Phillips was doing with The Mamas And The Papas. Their song "California Dreamin" might make the transition to modern style. There was a lot of vocal fill in the background, but the melody voice was solo. And it does have a driving beat.

Taste is a big issue with covers. You don't want to end up with a stinking piece of garbage like what Lenny Kravitz did to the Guess Who's "American Woman".
