If you want to do a Simon & Garfunkel song, I think "Hazy Shade Of Winter" has better possibilities for you.

Bear in mind that most of the great songs from back then relied heavily on vocal harmony. That doesn't seem to be happening these days. I remember getting into music in a big way because of the amazing vocal arrangements John Phillips was doing with The Mamas And The Papas. Their song "California Dreamin" might make the transition to modern style. There was a lot of vocal fill in the background, but the melody voice was solo. And it does have a driving beat.

Taste is a big issue with covers. You don't want to end up with a stinking piece of garbage like what Lenny Kravitz did to the Guess Who's "American Woman".
