Just wondering if anyone has come across a plug-in that will allow an electric guitar to sound like a bass? Can this be done through the PODxt?

My FX pedal has a pitch-shifter capability that allows you to play with two pitches +/-12, but you can switch it off and play with only one pitch active so you can emulate a bass, but it's not quite the same...I'd be surprised if you couldn't do this (or better) from a POD.

I'd personally say for a real bass sound, you need a bass guitar, but I understand why you're asking. I'd be interested to know if there is anything out there that gives you a decent bass sound from a guitar too...anyone? Rask - this sounds like your territory...
Don't worry too much about me, ignore me long enough and I'll go away.

I don't know from POD's, but octave pedals used to be fairly common. I had a Boss OC-2 for a while, and I still have a Danelectro >Chili Dog< mini-pedal.

Are you talking about VST plug-ins?

I have a GNX4 and so far I have found two patches that make your guitar sound like a bass. One of them is really good!
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song.

I haven't found anything that gives a convincing bass tone from a guitar. Most things I've tried (pitch shifters) don't track the notes very well, so it usually turnes to mush.

And no, it can't be done on a PODxt alone.

I did'nt think it was possible either... the only thing I could imagine that would be convincing would be a midi pickup. There are loads of very convincing midi vst plug-ins, I'll probably just play the bass lines off the keyboard then master and EQ with a Giga Studio patch. Pity though, would prefer to play the bass lines on my axe. I'm not buying a bass guitar!!!

Aw, don't be like that - you can pick up a decent used bass cheap, and it becomes one more entry in your skill-set. Six-stringers are a dime a dozen, but a good bass player can always find a gig.
